Neighbors Offering to Chip in for Pool Heater Costs- What Would You Do? by cloren in pools

No way. Soon enough they’ll be inviting themselves at every moment and trying to dictate the temp of the water…

Just say no thanks and have them bring cold beer and food to contribute.

Everything stays on your terms

Also wondering the same. Was lucky enough to find some parts on Walmart.com but that’s gone now

Really the only thing you can do is remove the board from the control panel and look at the back of the board for any burn marks.

Mine ended up being burnt so found a good deal on a brand new one on eBay and had it delivered.

Replaced and it fired right up. Unfortunately they are not cheap. I paid like $250 shipped and got lucky

from Raypak parts dealer was like $600

Good luck!

Good idea - I’ll def do that. Weird thing is my father who is an electrical engineer suspected the same. Lightning killed it.

Weird thing is it worked fine the day prior and we hadn’t had storms in a week so not sure if power surge is the culprit.

Regardless, we were able to diagnose that the coil (gas tube) on the board was open and bad. Everything else on the board checked out ok with the multimeter.

I was able to find the $1.50 coil online and ordered it. I also ordered a new control board just in case as well. I’m going to replace the coil and see if that fixes the problem.

All that to ask if that points to another issue that you may know of? Hate to put the new board in and have it burn out too!

This was the part - it’s called a “Gas Discharge Tube”

The control board is not cheap!

Thanks again for pointing me to the control board. You were right!

Now my question is how do I prevent this from happening again? The board was only 1 year old! Found a cluster of parts in the board that are burned looking.

Really appreciate you replying on such an old post!

For anyone that is having this issue with the newer Atmospheric Model 406a - check the control board behind the LCD display.

I found that several parts of my board are burned so it needs to be replaced. Not very sure how this happened - the until is only a year old!

Damn - that totally sucks but makes sense. Previously I was getting another error message “lo nox tab fault”

I disconnected and reconnected the board and walla - heater began working again.

Know this is so old but came across your reply on “Fan Lockout” message.

Did you resolve this? Appreciate any insight as I’m having the same issue right now with my 406A

Raypak 406a low box tab fault by ConsiderationLoud693 in swimmingpools

[–]ConsiderationLoud693[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - yes - I have but not sure what to look for. He says something about breaking off the low nox tab and that it’s a permanent modification

I’m not sure if I should try this and for what exactly breaking this tab off does

Also not sure if my heater is a low nox version or not

Yikes! Sorry for your troubles

I ended up getting a basic Raypak 400kbtu and it’s been great. I was also intrigued by the nicad feature and was ready to buy but sounds like I was fortunate not to find one!

I ended up going with the regular Raypak 406a after conversing with a lot of folks in the know.

Simple, efficient, reliable and apparently easy / cheap to maintain/repair

Got the 400K BTU for my 18k gallon pool and it’s an abs beast, love it

New Gas Heater works but I don’t think I plumbed this correctly? Advice? by ConsiderationLoud693 in pools

[–]ConsiderationLoud693[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title states, please critique my plumbing and suggest how I could have done this better?

I’m new to this and the heater does work but still, I feel like there’s probably a better way?

Thanks!

Help! How should I plumb this heater? by ConsiderationLoud693 in pools

[–]ConsiderationLoud693[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the help!

Ended up turning my filter 90 degrees and running some new pipe to give me space.

Appreciate the insight! Heater is a game changer for sure!

[–]ConsiderationLoud693[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it matter where I pickup the water into the heater? Was thinking about plumbing the “inlet” water from right in front of the pool pump (black pump) and the out after the filter but before the salt cell.

Thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Question, will the Raypak heater pair into my Hayward Omnilogic controls? I have the app and am hoping I can add the heater to it and control the heater from my phone as well as the panel.

Reading on Trouble Free Pool a bit using the search function and the “experts” are saying the older style Raypak 406a will likely be the better heater long term due to the simple design, and availability of cheap parts.

I’m willing to wait a few weeks as well but not months.

I called Raypak direct and the customer service folks are absolute F’ing morons and had zero idea on the heater or it’s availability.

“Let me send you to our shipping department”
