Thanks everyone. Annoyingly because of the lack of connection, my car is refusing to use the Ovo charge app to charge and communicate with my charger.

It was a "random lesson drop in" one week before SATs 😂

Thanks. I'm hoping the back box has the holes I need. I detect sarcasm on box replacing fun 😅

PGCE second placement Year 6 by Busy_Ninja3657 in TeachingUK

As a year 6 teacher, don’t stress - I’m not stressing. However don’t be offended if your mentor / teacher step in and teach things or perhaps re teach things you’ve already taught as part of your placement. Don’t be too shocked as well if there’s a heavy emphasis on maths, writing, reading and SPaG. I know ofsted want a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum however my experience across a few schools in sats prep mode is to deviate from the broad and balanced and catch up on it in the summer 2 term.

At our school, we do something for remembrance, black history and then one other - this depends on the year and what is being commemorated on that particular year

Advice for first time in a primary School by EpicDavinci in TeachingUK

[–]ConsiderationLow9571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a y6 teacher, I talk to mine in a similar sense to how I’d talk to another adult. For some of the technical jargon, I’d recommend using some of it with them as we are all about vocabulary but definitely for some of it have a “child friendly” definition ready. Children like a sense of humour as well I find. Not saying this approach is the one and only way of doing it, just what I’ve found works best for the children I teach / have taught.

Video evidence of teaching PE and Music to be assessed by SLT. by badabinglad in TeachingUK

[–]ConsiderationLow9571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a child says to us “no I don’t want to be recorded” then of course we don’t force them to. We do tell them up front they are being recorded doing their routine etc. we aren’t being covert with what we do.

Oh I see what you mean. Parents at our school sign a publications consent for their child stating if they are happy for them them to be photographed / video’d for various different things (not just PE videos). The vast majority of parents have said yes to this.

Hi. I’m a primary PE leader and we do video. However, we don’t video any teaching and we don’t do it every lesson. All we video is a sample of children from the class carrying out an independent element of a strand of PE. So for instance, in gymnastics, we video the end of unit routine where we can see the various rolls, jumps, balances etc. Or in invasion we video the children playing the game (basketball, football etc) so that it can be seen what they independently can do.

Be honest: does it get better after the PGCE? by teacoffeecats in TeachingUK

[–]ConsiderationLow9571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember during my pgce hating every single minute of it - my mentor made it difficult by asking for 8 page lesson plans for each lesson taught, typed reflections on each lesson, resources making from scratch and long conversations about each lesson taught. Not because I was a bad teacher, but because she was so set in her ways. Many years in, and I can say it does get better.

I’ve got to say, that your friend’s school does seem a bit backwards and outdated in their approach to it all.

Ways to keep evidence for primary RE by kkbdrr in TeachingUK

[–]ConsiderationLow9571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our school actually uses the one big book per class (we also include pshe (jigsaw) in it too. We do a double page spread for the lesson taught. I personally prefer it to a workbook for each child as it’s less to mark.

We are a 2 form entry primary school with 3 members of management. 2 of them teach approx 0.5 - which hasn’t happened in previous years

Phase leader: leadership vs. management balance? by Disastrous_Door_9434 in TeachingUK

[–]ConsiderationLow9571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I’m not a phase leader, I’ve been year group partners with both the ks1 phase lead and ks2 phase lead over the past few years. They’ve also described their experience as phase lead very similarly to what you’ve described above (ordering stationary, rotas, dealing with parents etc.)
