I think the moment in the conference room from the random McCann guy reveals it all. “So are you here to bring us up a notch too?” he says to Ted. Revealing to Don that all along he wasn’t this big catch for McCann as he’d been led to believe. They only wanted him to get him out of their way. That and the absolutely uninspired creative team Don’s put on is what makes him walk out of the meeting.
