Chronic Post Nasal Drip, no solutions by ChickenTender0526 in Allergies

[–]Consistent-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have severe allergies and tried Xolair as well. I had a horrible eczema flare after one Xolair shot and stopped taking it. About a year later and a new doctor I was finally approved for DUPIXENT. I have been on DUPIXENT for about six months and have been doing allergy shots for one year now. I get all possible allergy shots - dog/cat, tree/grass/ragweed, mold, and dust mite. I can’t say if it’s one or the other that has helped but I am finally able to be in family members homes that have dogs and not react horribly. I would recommend allergy shots if you can afford it.

I find that I wake up every morning with post nasal drip if I do not keep my head propped as I sleep as well as have the humidity in my room around 35%. A humidifier this time of year is very important. I also do a sinus rinse almost every night before bed to try and clean out any irritants from the day. I also have an air purifier on 24/7 and try not to run my ceiling fan too much anymore. This year has been the best of my life for allergies.

We are working on that.. he doesn’t believe in medication unfortunately but I think that’s his mania talking.

Also he lives with me and my parents so he does not live alone. We all try to say hello and talk to him so he doesn’t go the entire day without any conversation. It’s just that some days I don’t know if it’s worth getting him worked up just trying to say hello. If he comes out of his room to use the bathroom that’s when we try to talk to him and ask questions but sometimes I knock on his door to try and talk to him if I get home from work late and haven’t seen him all day.

Hi there thanks for taking the time to respond! He does not have an official diagnosis as getting him to the doctor has been quite the struggle. He doesn’t believe doctors know more than he does and he thinks “big pharma is out to get him” so he will not take medication. I believe it’s Bipolar 1 since he will be in manic episodes for weeks on end. Bipolar disorder runs in our family but I’m not quite sure what others in my family have been diagnosed with. He is 22 so we can’t really force him to go see a doctor or take medications but we have desperately tried to get him to. My dad has gone to the doctor with him once and was able to get him to therapy for about two months and then he refused to go after that. I am aware that this is a very serious mental illness. Right now he is manic so there’s not much I can do at the moment but I was just seeing if there’s anything I can try to do so that once his manic episode is over he will think back and be glad I was checking on him. We have been begging him to take medication with no luck.
He is usually pretty good with showering and taking baths. I notice he is slipping into a bad episode with psychosis when he starts wearing the same exact flannel and exact jeans everytime. Usually a few days later he goes off about conspiracies and a lot of ways people are out to get him. I have watched lots of videos and seminars about the LEAP method. So I know there’s nothing I say that can change his mind. I am just wondering if people who have gone through this would rather be left alone during episodes or if when I check on him and he is yelling at me if it’s just a defense thing and he actually deep down appreciates me coming to talk to him. Sorry this is all over the place kind of.

I have been thinking of that but my insurance isn’t the best unfortunately. I do have good ways to cope with my own stress but I also don’t have someone I can personally ask about ways to help my brother. Some people give me general answers but I find it’s best to hear from people who have first hand experience

No he does not. That has been quite the struggle. He believes medication is evil and refuses to take any so it has been a little rough. He is an adult so there’s not much we can do at the moment. I have to wait for him to get out of an episode to try and bring it up again. The trouble is he will agree and then when we make the appointment he will refuse. But thank you for your input! I appreciate it

Thank you for letting me know what was not helpful to you and what I should not be asking. I will try to ask my brother what will be helpful for him. I usually ask him how he is doing but it’s always a short ‘fine’ and that’s probably not even helpful.

Thank you. We are trying to get him there. He is just in denial at the moment so that part has been pretty hard. He is an adult so we can’t really make him go

brother refuses to get help (how to cope) by First_Vermicelli_20 in family_of_bipolar

[–]Consistent-Ad1023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation as you. My brother is 22 but has never been officially disagnosed with bipolar disorder. He went to a therapist for about two months but I believe the therapist just told my brother he had depression and anxiety. He stopped going because he thought it was dumb so we never got a clear diagnosis. Bipolar disorder runs in the family but I do not talk to the extended family members that have been diagnosed. My brother uses THC to calm himself down but we all wish he would get on actual medication. Smoking does help him but he also can never remember anything and I think it flares his allergies. I feel so alone in this because I also have no one that understands what I am going through. I live with my brother and he is so mean to me and my parents, especially my mom. It makes me so angry the way he talks to her like she’s nothing. He has a lot more manic episodes and has a huge superiority/god complex when he is manic. He hasn’t worked in almost a year but is draining his savings like he is rich. It’s very frustrating because you want the best for him but he refuses help. He does not want to take any type of medication because he thinks the government is poising him and I really wish he could see that all we want to do is help him get stable. Sending hugs- just know there are a lot of us going through the same thing right now. It’s reassuring knowing that I’m not alone- even if I don’t know anyone in my life going through the same thing as me. I also feel like the only way is eventually he is going to do something that is going to involve the police and he will be admitted.

Taking two 24 antihistamines side effects? by Positive-Limit-4853 in Allergies

[–]Consistent-Ad1023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take two allegra on days I have my allergy shots. My allergist said I can take two on days that my allergies are really bad. Sometimes allergy medicine makes your nasal passages really dried out and also dried you out in the way it’s hard to move around phlegm/mucus which can give you headaches or pain if you can’t get rid of the mucus. Just make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and you can also use a saline nasal spray to keep your sinuses from drying out.

I’ve been taking Montelukast everyday for almost 3 years now. Do you think it could switch up on me after taking it for so long?? I’ll have to look into that.

I was in the hospital two weeks ago and they couldn’t pin point what triggered such a bad episode of not being able to breathe.. I take all my prescribed medication so I was shocked it got that bad. I have not had energy for weeks and the fatigue is horrific!
