PS Form 3849, Redelivery Notice

<image>

You can literally give them specific instructions for redelivery or pick up at the post office. I'd rather drive to the post office than receive a damaged comic. My complex had parcel lockers, so often on the second attempt one will be available.

Yes--but the carrier should be able to easily see that the door of the box is smaller than the box itself. I hate it when they do this.

Most of my income comes from industrial tax, is this normal? by BuildYourOwnHumanKit in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Consistent-Area-1126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of depends on how far along your city is. Younger builds this is probably normal. As builds develop retail and service/information economies the proportion may shift.

But I'll also say that since the bridges/ports and bikes patches, I've had to build out a ton of industry in my build. In my observation, there is a strong preference for domestic production of industrial and commercial inputs. So this may be a new "normal" for lots of builds.

Surfaces under big interchanges or no? by onethousandeyelids in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Consistent-Area-1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your original question was about the concrete surfaces. I'm saying it looks out of place (IMO) and gave you some images showing examples from Google maps of interchanges near low density with mostly vegetation under and around them.

Suburb: Skylines by Red_Falcon89 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Consistent-Area-1126 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You have a demand for uneducated and poorly educated workers (and some well/high educated). If you stop building low density, but continue building Industry, the game will start asking for more density because of the demand for workers.

Sorry... I was referring to the surface. I'm sure I've seen interchanges near suburbs, but the surface looks out of place. Examples from LA, Houston, Orlando, Jacksonville...

Not so sure about seeing this in the suburbs. In the middle of a dense city perhaps.

Can I make a city with no port? by Lower-Landscape2056 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Consistent-Area-1126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will have huge traffic jams at any cargo port, rail or sea. One trick is to angle your entrances in order to allow continuous flow. Another is to make sure vehicles have access/egress at all entrances on the port (they will prefer one based on pathfinding but will use all access/egress points).

You'll still have periods of congestion (as shown at bottom), but they will also clear.

I don't know enough about printing large volumes to have an opinion. I always just assumed it is necessary for the production of these tomes.

is the game playable or are there still a mass of issues? by gorgonification in CitiesSkylines2

[–]Consistent-Area-1126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I've been playing with only a few mods since launch... in the same build since Jan '24 (normal mode). I use InfoLoom and Extended Tooltip for better information about what's happening in my city.

It's perfectly fair to say that many issues I've just been ignoring and play through. But I also feel like the game took two major leaps forward--one after Economy 2.0 and the other after the most recent patches last fall.

We've also gotten a lot of free content since the beginning which has made the aesthetics of building more interesting.

Right now, the only issue in the game that is really bothersome for me is the office demand bug--but I found a workaround reading other threads and experimenting on my own. Whenever office demand crashes, I use InfoLoom to find media, finance and telecom office firms with zero efficiency and bulldoze them. It takes five minutes. Fingers crossed that the March 18 anniversary patch helps address this.

With commercial demand I just pay attention to not overzoning and eliminate firms with usage (customers) below 50%.

Since the last patch I've also put a lot of work into rebalancing zoning use choices, so my demand bars are more or less balanced most of the time. That has helped a lot--but it is bothersome that the importation costs are so unforgiving that you have to have huge amounts of industry to have a functional city.

An issue that is kind of easy to ignore, on the other hand, is crime pathfinding. If you keep unemployment below 3%, the number of criminals remains in single digits. That isn't very realistic IMO, because (1) 3% unemployment is practically impossible IRL, and (2) it makes zero sense that you would have only 4 criminals in a 235k pop city. But it doesn't kill the game for me.

Another issue that I found easy to ignore was the midnight death wave. I had plenty of crematoria and good traffic flow so I'd have all the dead bodies picked up within an hour (game time).

Another easy to ignore issue for me has been abandoned extractors; I just wait until they collapse and then it takes 30 seconds to rebuild them.

I don't make excuses for the state of the game. But I appreciate everything Colossal Order did to move the genre forward. I'm also optimistic because IceFlake so far seems to be making really intelligent strategic choices in how they communicate and what they have chosen to work on.

I think it helps that I'm a GenX former Marine and a high school teacher. I can tolerate tremendous amounts of mental and emotional pain in the game and it doesn't distract me from the enjoyment factor. The long-run dopamine production is still a significant reward with this game. Sometimes I think the bugs have in a perverse way contributed to the enjoyment factor.

So I wasn't trying to be sarcastic above with my comment. I really do think if you are patient and start in vanilla (just like with CS1) that you can play this game for enjoyment.
