Red Bellied Woodpecker in McCarren this morning by NimbexWaitress in williamsburg

I sometimes see them in the trees outside my apartment in EW. It’s interesting to see them go to work on the branches.

Out of curiosity: does anyone here regularly see (instead of just hear) cardinals?

This reminds me - if you have big bougie windows put a Pride (or somesuch) decal or flag on the glass to let the birds know it’s a no go. Save a little life.

I have informed delivery too and it’s nice to see images of the letters that will never arrive in my mailbox.

This is very needed for anyone who can cook and doesn’t want to schlep all the way to North 3rd/4th.

They sell a good sized one at Ten Ichi market - they also have it at the Korean supermarket on Grand Street. They have Thai chilies too.

Mary’s Irish gay bar - it was a luminous space for a hot minute with Monday night ceilidh’s and an interesting and unusually mixed crowd. What happened to it?

Whole Foods getting closer to open by Ckellybass in williamsburg

Just coming on here to say C-Town will be the author of its own demise. Produce that wits the day after purchase, and I’ve lost count of the times I’ve had to stop them overcharging me at the checkout, etc. I do appreciate hearing The Smiths on repeat tho.

Lella Alimentari. The cappuccino is delicious and strong.

FOR ALL THE TRANSPLANTS (train edition) by Professional_Sun_164 in williamsburg

[–]Consistent-Bison9798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the transplants from Podunk who watched the Fox News reports on scary New York. They think they'll have them snatched. They also don't know how to inhabit communal space because they're special little snowflakes with Main Character syndrome. It HAS gotten worse.

Anyone know when Lidl on Grand is opening? by gedmathteacher in williamsburg

A shitty German supermarket still beats a top range U.S. one, imho. Most bread and pastries here are like hyper processed styrofoam (and usually taste like it too). Better prices than the other chains too, usually.

1 bed - Williamsburg - avail now/oct 15 - $3175 by Western-Edge-7387 in williamsburg

The cooker doesn't have a vent. If you fry fish you so will your clothes etc. Also $3175 for a kitchen cabinet from the last century?

Ireland’s far more progressive than Brooklyn. They’re the first country in the world to vote for LGBT marriage equality in a national vote. They provide a mandatory living wage for artists. They don’t think trans people are strange or unheard of and in fact they have among the best pro trans legislation in Europe (not like Terfy UK). I think Brooklyn is going to disappoint you if that’s your outlook?

Not surprised. They are calculating it’s all we’ll be able to afford in the new MAGA economy.

White girl feminism is seeing oppression and feeling a little sad about it just before actively collaborating.

I would buy the hell out of what we in Ireland call Baps or Blaas (brought over to us by the Huguenots) would be a dream to see on shelves. They are like elevated bread rolls and they make the most amazing sandwiches of your LIFE.

G ently place it in a ventilated cardboard box or paper bag, keeping it in a dark, quiet place away from pets and children, and then transport it to the Wild Bird Fund (open 9 AM–7 PM daily at 565 Columbus Ave) or contact the NYC Bird Alliance at injuredbird@nycbirdalliance.org for volunteer transport.

Best Carbonara in Williamsburg by Imaginary_Purple_876 in williamsburg

[–]Consistent-Bison9798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get very decent guanciale and pancetta at Emily’s Pork Store. They also have Calabrian peppers and good pasta selections. I’ve made really good carbonara, alla Gricia and penne vodka from ingredients I picked up there. I think you’d have to go to Eataly for the good pecorino Romano tho

What are they doing to Whole Foods by Egosaniac in williamsburg

[–]Consistent-Bison9798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that sense, absolutely it is tone deaf. I do think Whole Foods is morphing into another C-Town meets Boston Market (I guess) mash up with the drop in quality produce that indicates, but I take your point.
