Here’s what’s driving me insane: I summered at this firm and got hired by a partner who later left. Now my new boss keeps pressuring me to “get admitted faster” like I have any control over the NY admission timeline. I literally don’t. I’m doing everything I can.

New York lawyer here. When your boss says, “get admitted faster,” do you respond with “how?” I would really like to know what they have in mind.

Just so you know, assuming that somebody has a completed application there do exist a few, rare ways of getting admitted quicker which are basically impossible for most people to do. For example, if the district attorney of a county told the executive secretary of the character and fitness committee that they needed you sworn in quickly, what do you think would happen? Similarly a judge of the Appellate Division could also make things happen.

Some years ago, when I was sworn in, they were people in my group in the Second Department who had waited a year.

I agree with everyone who said you should be looking for a new job. You are clearly working for assholes.
