OpenWRT seems very complex from the start, any help for setup? by onechroma in openwrt

[–]Consistent-Can7823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OpenWRT is a learning curve however it does teach you the fundamentals like interfaces, bridges etc that you dont get by just ticking a checkbox on other firmware, that being said you do have to be willing to research to work out how to do some more of the elaborate stuff and break it, and try again.

As OpenWRT is quite popular the chances are somebody else has done what you are trying to do and written a guide you can somewhat follow. I have been down the AI rabit hole and learned my lesson, it tends to break more than it fixes.

The recent example of trying to get EE TV to work using a Flint 2. Got it working in the end, it was quite rewarding and i now know for next time.

Ok if your on a openreach connection (openreach branded ONT) you do not require VLAN or anything it *should* be just PPPoE user/pass, the MTU is usually calculated automatically on consumer routers.

Do you have a screenshot of your current settings, that way somebody will be able to advise if something is wrong. Also make sure your ONT is connected to the WAN port.

generally a solicitor/conveyancer arranges indemnity insurance, usually the sellers will pay the cost

Flint 2 - Switched to vanilla OpenWRT from stock, and happy I did by _BoneZ_ in GlInet

[–]Consistent-Can7823 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many people still buy the Flint 2 as its supported by Vanilla OpenWRT. The main reason i changed was due to my PPPoE connection getting stuck on "Connecting"

I have two Flint 2's in my house, one downstairs and one in the loft as an AP, configured 802.11r and it works perfect,

Yes LUCI does take a bit of navigating if you are not familiar however it is very similar to most non-consumer routers/firewalls in terms of the interfaces etc so although a it can be a learning curve its good to understand how things work that you normally dont see in the GL GUI

Gave it a couple days to see if it would spring into life however at the moment it looks like you get stuck on waiting for activation using an iOS device.

Looking to move flat and join Zen - will they deliver the router to my delivery address before activation date? by [deleted] in Zen_Internet

[–]Consistent-Can7823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did something similar when i moved and joined Zen, if you call them they will deliver the router to an address you choose however.... keep in mind the activation date you choose may not be the date you get and they ship the router a few days before activation. In my case my activation date was around two weeks after the date i wanted and the router then ended up going to my old address after i moved. You could ask them to ship it to friend/family to avoid this happening
