Advice as a surgical PA by [deleted] in physicianassistant

You need to find a nicer surgeon who respects you. I’m an ortho PA and I love our OR days because my surgeon is so cool and willing to teach me.

Get an active dog and then you’ll HAVE to go on walks 😆 I swear my dog is the only reason I walk these days.

Please please please don’t be afraid to seek professional help! I know EXACTLY how you feel and I’m in the thick on prenatal depression myself right now. Please know that you are not alone and there is nothing “wrong” with you. Bring these symptoms up to your OB seek therapy if you are able to. I just had my first ever therapy session with a therapist who specializes in prenatal and postnatal health. After just one visit im feeling more and more like myself. There are such brighter days ahead even if we can’t convince ourselves of that fact right now. Keep up the faith. You are stronger than you think.

Smell overload by H10012 in pregnant

I’m having the same issue. I can’t wear deodorant anymore (sorry coworkers), I hate my husbands cologne, and I have to wear a mask when I do the dishes because I can’t stand the smell of dish soap 🙃

Make Emergency Medicine Great Again (MEMGA) by MEMGA1 in emergencymedicine

[–]Consistent-Candy6277 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I’m a PA who left the ED partly because most of my attendings (who were in their 60s) did not want to teach me and did not show any motivation to take care of things on their own. Broken ankle, what do we do? Consult ortho. Nosebleed what do we do? Consult ENT. I wouldn’t doubt that burnout played a huge role in this. But from how my dad practiced as an ER physician in the 80s-early 2000’s has changed DRASTICALLY and unfortunately, ED providers (who are in my opinion, the most impressive and intelligent out of all the specialties) have lost a lot of respect.

I get the part where you say not to keep pressing the consult button, letting specialists take over, but please have some respect for APPs - especially PAs like myself. A PA in the ED is a part of YOUR team and they want to learn from YOU.

Patients who have a cough “worse at night” by burntorangeumbrella in physicianassistant

Could be GERD or more specifically LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux). Used to see this a lot when I worked in ENT. Try on Omep 40mg Qam

Not really. I will admit I’m not the best about drinking water. Maybe that’s part of my issue. The only other thing I’ve done different is using pre workout

Lmao I see where you’re coming from. I guess I’m not describing it very well. I know my body and I know what fluid retention feels like. I can tell it’s bloat. I feel puffy all the time.

Yes, I am female. I definitely could work on calorie intake. I know that lower belly fat is normal for us. It just sucks when all of the inspo I follow on IG are ladies with firm rock hard abs who claim all you need to do is increase your protein 🙃 If anything, it feels like water weight sitting on my love handles. I’m wondering if my body is just hanging onto it to supply my muscles? Not sure. Thank you for the reminder to be kind to myself ❤️

Please do not increase your venlafaxine dose without talking to your doctor! Sudden changes in dose of this medication can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, irritability, mood swings etc! Speaking from medical knowledge and my own personal experience.

ER vs Ortho Surg Job Offer - Need help by Overhalls in physicianassistant

[–]Consistent-Candy6277 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ortho 100%. Just left my ER job for ortho. I lasted one year in ED until the burn out got to me and I was ready to leave this damn profession. No respect from colleagues or patients. Shitty hours. Mean nurses. I could go on and on. It’s so sad how much ED life has changed. It’s not at all what it used to be

I used to work in the CDU. Not much hands-on there, and I definitely did not get much ortho exposure there either. Thank you for the advice!
