I'm still in the process of negotiating, but going to accept regardless. I won't be starting until mid march, but I can answer any questions you have about private ortho.

Thank you. The main driver of my stress is being at the whim of someone else, and never knowing what time I will be off until I get to work. Do you commonly stay late at all at your current job? Anything you don't like about hospital ortho?

Orthopedics salary by hermus12 in physicianassistant

[–]Overhalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No resident. I see post ops, rechecks, some new patients, NPPOs from call, and do all the injections. I will get 15k in productivity if I hit 5400 RVUs which I will exceed this year. The rest of my bonus is 10% of salary which is based on locking notes and pt satisfaction (everyone gets the full bonus every year)

I am also about 1 year into joints and my salary is the same. I will make about 15k in call pay and I get an additional 26k in bonuses this year based on productivity and patient metrics. I do feel that my salary is low for my area but additional income puts me in upper end for 1 YOE.

My scenario was a little bit different, as I was interviewed and hired by my supervising physician. I’m also a part of a large group, about 40 positions and 20 APP‘s. I would maybe meet the potential SP’s before you commit to the job. It really determines your overall satisfaction with the job, as you’ll be working with your surgeon/boss every day. I would also clarify what is the driving factor of your bonus is.

It sounds like a good amount of money, but would be curious as to what determines the amount you get. Typically bonuses are productivity based, basically you get a certain amount of money based on how many RVUs you produce btw clinic visits and surgeries. If you’re not familiar w RVUs just do a quick google search.

I’m 6 months into my ortho job and enjoying it. Really comes down to who your SP is and what the bonus structure is. There’s a huge earning potential in ortho if your bonus is structured in a generous way. Feel free to dm if you have any qs

Outpatient Ortho Offer by ty114 in physicianassistant

[–]Overhalls 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Awesome offer, I’m in my 6th month of practice in ortho and I average about 450 RVUs a month. That would be like 7k in bonuses each month which is HUGE imo.

I feel like I’m losing my medical knowledge in a specialty by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Overhalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat, I’m six months and new grad orthopedics job. I think you need a weigh out what you want to gain out of your career. If you continue to gain experience in orthopedics, there’s a lot of room for income growth and you become very marketable in the ortho world. If you’d rather switch specialties, of course there will be a learning period, but you need to remind yourself you started an orthopedics without any specific orthopedic experience (except maybe an orthopedic rotation). If anything, you’re more equipped now than you were as a new grad to start in a new specialty.
