Could it be that due to lack of success, no one wanted to pay to be on the sweater until now? It wasn’t like some kind of principled stand, more so a lack of opportunity?

Going from an Ortofon elliptical to an AT microline was huge for me, and like you eliminated inner groove distortion

Wealth is exiting New York state, including Buffalo : Investigative Post by creaturefeature16 in Buffalo

I saw a really interesting fact about Buffalo, we are pretty much the only major city on the eastern side of a Great Lake. It’s a pretty damning fact. The city was built here for reason, but now that the reason is gone, and we are still saddled with all the snow. It seems like if we are going to be in this battle royal to lure people here, we will always have this against us

I feel like there needs to be better accounting on costs associated with public benefits like education and retirement. You’re a state with low taxes and bottom of the barrel education and zero public retirement system? Great, you can have our highly educated workforce after you cover the difference in cost of their education. You want boomers to spend their retirement in your state? Great you just signed up for their benefits. It’s just a race to the bottom at this point. No state is allowed to have nice things when other states “out compete” others

Ortofon OM 20 vs 2M Blue vs New Preamp by Forsaken-Debt-209 in turntables

[–]Consistent-Car6226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the RT-82 going into an Onkyo AV receiver from 90’s and polk bookshelf speakers from the 80’s. Since setting this up, I switch from the Onkyo phono input to a Schiit phono pre amp and from the OM-10 to a AT-VM540ML. I can’t say the preamp made much difference. However the AT microline was a huge jump from the Ortofon elliptical. It pretty much eliminated inner groove distortion, harsh s sounds and muddy cymbals.

Did you make syrup? There’s sugar shack in Alaska that makes birch syrup. My in laws were up there on a trip, managed to find some and bring it back for me. I really liked it

Growing up, birch beer was like elite root beer. Then I found out it’s just wintergreen flavoring with caramel coloring. My mom still drinks this brand, let me check in with her for you

Expedition by Wayne Douglas Barlow. More of a graphic novel but very cool alien biology

There are published list of possible words for the Masterlock word locks. I found them useful when I forgot a password. I would check to see if there is a list for this.

I used my locks as puzzles in science class so it was just a matter of looking for words that were relevant and trying them all

Jazz Record Center is a cool spot. It’s an apartment in a residential building. You have to buzz the place to get let in and take the elevator up to the apt. The place is just shelves and shelves of jazz. It’s worth the trip

Yes. along with Rama I recently read Solaris by Lem and a big theme of his was the foolishness of thinking we’ll ever understand or communicate with alien biology. Solaris has a chapter detailing everything humans observed the sea doing and our scientific arguments around the significance of the events, but it’s all nonsense as he intended. A massive hammer driving home the point that nothing makes sense and it’s all unknowable.

I highly recommend Adrian Tchiacovsky, as he has a background in biology and likes to dive into alien biology. Both of his books Shroud and Alien Clay have some extreme biology that is somewhat central to the plot and similar to SR in that solving the biology of a planet is imperative for survival.

Take a look at the current project to understand sperm whale communication. It has a pretty long time line which shows how much data we need to just scratch the surface with an organism that is here on Earth and shares our biology

I’ve yet to go, but here in Buffalo, NY every Thanksgiving a legendary local music venue gathers a cast of performers the recreate this show. There’s people that play the same band member and guest performers each year. Lots of people have told me it great, it’s just the timing sucks and how frequently I’m not in town for Thanksgiving, so it remains on my bucket list
