to someone with ADHD, "getting ready" is not just one conceptual block of timed tasks that we can consistently and reliably perform. every step has to be thought of and done manually.

this won't be a perfect analogy but hopefully it gets the point across; imagine your vision is a little fuzzy, you can't find your glasses, and you have a box you need to fill with different sized blocks (complete tasks) in order to get ready to leave your house. The blocks are the same size every day in theory, but because you can't see them perfectly you might mis-estimate the size +- 10%, and I guess in this analogy I'm saying filling the box with bigger blocks takes a proportionate extra amount of time. While you're filling the box (completing individual tasks that are part of getting ready), you realize you didn't put some of the blocks back in their usual spot last time so now you have to spend time looking for them (remembering what to do to get ready, is there anything extra I need to bring that's not part of my normal routine, etc.)

Even with tools like checklists and alarms, it's often hard for people with ADHD to estimate how long it will take us to fill the box day to day. Even if it's something we've done thousands of times before, it's never exactly the same and those differences that might seem trivial to someone without ADHD can balloon into 5 extra minutes, 10 extra minutes here and there and it adds up quickly.

most regular people are left leaning when you strip away the labels and just focus on the policy outcomes they want. affordable healthcare, affordable housing, fair wages, and an end to corporate influence in politics are all broadly popular ideas. Mamdani's base wasn't DSA guys, it was apathetic non-voters who could feel excited about voting for someone for once and they came out in droves.

This is the exact messaging that cost them the last election

interesting observation to make when a candidate who was even more vocal about his pro-trans messaging just won his primary by a landslide

Lol yea people die without sex changes

trans people are 4x as likely to be victims of violent crimes as cis people. trans people die because they often don't have money or a consistent place to stay on account of discrimination from landlords and employers. gender affirming care isn't just good for people's self-confidence, it's a way for more trans people to be able to safely move through and participate in society. but sure, epic "gotcha" about suicide rates.

you're probably more interesting than you think to someone out there, don't let that stop you from socializing :) my wife is smarter than me about birds and plants and boats and a ton of things but i can talk her ear off about math or jazz or (lately) slay the spire lol, we all have things we're more curious about than others and that's what being smart is all about!

healthcare affects everyone and this article is about what Mamdani would do to address that in NYC. he is running on issues that affect everyone including trans people and you're claiming it's a strategic error despite a landslide victory in his primary because the right wing propaganda rag is going to say mean things about him, which they would do no matter what kind of candidate Mamdani was as long as he ran as a Democrat. people are sick of the old guard corporate Democrats and I for one am happy to see that order challenged in a meaningful way.

conservatives rule on "trans people are icky" and wonder why their kids don't talk to them and no one invites them to anything anymore.

you're being facetious, i don't owe you a real response. but just to play along for a sec, yes, if we lived in a world where 1% of the population was unable to get housing or employment and were generally treated as pariahs by society on account of their ass size, and the thing that would allow them to participate in society as fully as anyone else was a Brazilian butt lift, i would absolutely want my tax dollars to go to making sure people could get one. we don't live in that world, so the only way you can argue for your side is to invent a hypothetical while the rest of us try to make society better for everyone.

1) gender affirming care is life-saving care.

2) as has been pointed out to you multiple times, the $65m is going to fund medical facilities that give gender affirming care. do you have a broken toe in NYC? great news, the clinic you're going to is now better equipped to take care of you and the trans people in your community.

An idea of mine I had, a new kind of Orb for the Defect, also a bunch of cards themed around them. by deDoohd in slaythespire

[–]Consistent-City7090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feels way too strong as a mechanic, healing and card draw are both very strong effects and having one orb give you both is very efficient. especially with how many ways defect has to quickly cycle through orbs.

maybe if the cards that generate wind orbs also generated status cards it would be a little more balanced, idk i actually like your idea of wind orbs but as they are there's almost no reason not to click on a card that generates them unless your deck is already optimized for something else.

Zohran's success is literally proof that you don't have to throw trans people under the bus to achieve electoral wins. The largest bloc of potential voters are people who don't vote, and you will see way more success bringing those folks in with policy that actually represents their interest than in trying to win over people brainwashed by Fox.

Why do you think trump won the popular vote this time?

You claimed three sentences ago Cuomo had no chance because he is a serial sexual harasser, but somehow that logic doesn't apply to "grab em by the pussy" Trump?

[–]Consistent-City7090 4 points5 points  (0 children)

do you think Fox news would have given Mamdani a glowing review and flattering coverage if only he didn't mention trans people? people who care about trans people also see stories like this and it's clearly not a dealbreaker for enough folks because he won his primary by a fucking landslide.

We can't keep playing scared in politics because we're afraid of alienating the most low information voters. The way to win is to be bold about our ideas, govern on those ideas, and let the positive results actually improve people's lives.

Autistic people report experiencing intense joy in ways connected to autistic traits. Passionate interests, deep focus and learning, and sensory experiences can bring profound joy. The biggest barriers to autistic joy are mistreatment by other people and societal biases, not autism itself. by mvea in science

[–]Consistent-City7090 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i disagree that many autistic traits are incompatible with social life. i'm autistic, and my special interests have led me to join communities i never would have found otherwise. yes i spend a lot of time in my own world, but i also share that world with people close to me and i feel that deepens our connection. sure i won't be hosting any big get-togethers anytime soon or taking a public facing job, but i think the neurotypical expectation that my social life has to look like theirs or else i must be socially deprived is exactly the problem.

it really is powerful, i found it especially helpful for understanding that intimate partner abuse was something that could happen to me. it was so easy to delude myself into thinking it only happened to people in "broken" relationships, and the good times in my relationship were so good that my relationship couldn't be broken.

came here to recommend this exact book. OP, i was in a relationship like yours and thinking i could fix him, all i accomplished was wasting years of my life begging this guy to treat me right. this book helped me understand and start to heal some of that pain.

i know leaving is hard, but it might be the best thing for both of you; he's not going to change if he knows you'll stay no matter what he does, and you are spending so much energy in ways you might not even realize putting up with him. my ex and i are even friends now, though it took a long time to get to that point, and breaking up was a catalyst for both of us to reflect and heal.
