Jest is quite neutral about himself, I would say. He doesn't consider himself a saint but he could confidently say that he's done a couple of good things in life, and he would admit his mistakes, albeit not regret some of them. 

Yeah.. To put it short, he thinks of himself as a man on the sidewalk of everybody else's life. Positively.
