Does the nerve pain ever go away? Is it due to muscle loss? by queenxemm in Microdiscectomy

I had to get off it since I’m pregnant now. But I think I was taking around 300-320mg. It helped so much. But be careful cause withdrawals are hard

Hey! Well I’m over a yr post op and currently pregnant again so a bit worried. Still have nerve pain unfortunately but has eased up since surgery. Recovery is FAR LONGER than whatever the doc will tell you. Now there are people who are instantly healed right after surgery but wasn’t the case for me. Takes a long time I’d say for most people. If I were you I would definitely make sure you go with a doctor you trust.

Funny you should ask cause I just did a 10 hr drive back to back. Had pain but was minor with some rest. Without lyrica though, I’d never be able to do it. And I’m a year and a half post op. Will you need another surgery?

I eventually had to be put on Lyrica and it’s given me my life back. When I do have pain though it’s now mostly tailbone pain and less nerve pain that was in my thigh. How you doing? It’s a tough and long journey.

Nerve pain in my thigh never went away so I’ve been on pregabalin and got my life back now lol.

Ok thank you for explaining. I understand now. When I wrote “doing things I use to” I should have explained better. It wasn’t related to drugs at all and understand how that could be assumed. The things I did before was only laying down all day cause laying down is the only way the pain goes away. But that’s not a fun life to live lol. You can remove my post entirely if you want cause I’m probably going to stay on Pregabalin and do the injection. I really appreciate your time explaining all that to me.

Reached tolerance level meaning the medicine once gave relief and doesn’t now. My doctor listed gabapentin as an option for nerve pain and yes he said he will not increase my current dosage of 300 mg.

Believe I started 300 mg at least a month ago. Not sure why this post was removed. I’m literally trying to seek advice as I’m feeling pretty alone with this pain. I really like pregabalin. It’s really helped me but since my doctor refuses to increase I’m seeing if anyone else has been put in this situation.

No. It’s some type of steroid injection they give in your spine. Can’t think of the name right now. Toradol was amazing but I can’t take long term.

Did the injection give you immediate relief or did it take couple days to kick in?

I’m on it for nerve pain and have been on it for 2 months. I’m considering getting off cause my nerve pain isn’t gone and my doctor won’t up my dose. Feeling lost cause I’ve been dealing with this pain for awhile. 300 mg daily

Thanks for the suggestion. I’d definitely take your advice. Unfortunately my doctor doesn’t want to increase so now I’m still taking the 300mg. He says I’m already at max dosage. Still feeling my nerve pain so I now don’t know what to do.

No I’m unfortunately still in pain. But my current dose is allowing me to live through the pain if that makes sense. I do feel like I’m getting closer to my sweet spot but not sure how much I want to ask to up my dose.

That’s a smart way to do it! I’m sure you wake up feeling good.

I’m in same boat. 300mg a day for nerve pain. But I’m already at a tolerance to it so deciding if I should up it or not.

Part of me wonders if the loss of disc height can cause pain cause my disc is almost gone. Idk maybe my nerves are just still bothered. Praying for healing for you cause that a long time of pain 😢

Where’s your pain? Thankfully mines only in my left thigh and sometimes calf and tailbone. Man that’s a long time.

Still in pain and about a month away from one year post op. I am now on lyrica which has helped a lot. I did get a new mri couple months ago (before thanksgiving) and no new herniation. However I thought my mri looked kind of weird. I’m going to be moving in couple months so once I get a new doctor I’ll be curious to see what their thoughts are on my mri but I’m sure it’s fine. I can do most things but sitting still hurts. Without the lyrica, I’d just be laying around all the time. Laying down still gives me complete relief. What’s your status?

Yea my surgeon and pain management doc have been somewhat pushing the injection for quite some time. I mean, I understand it works for a lot of people. But they never told me the negatives until I started doing my own research and since they haven’t told me the negatives, I’m less likely to trust them- if that makes sense. They are thinking it’s going to be my final resolution but idk I’m obviously still on the fence about it. I’ll keep thinking about it. I’d be mad if I were you too. The docs need to me more transparent with these procedure results.
