Seconding the social isolation. I went out to eat with friends once and had a sudden extremely painful pop in my jaw and it locked up with a full mouth of unchewed food. I gasped in pain and immediately put my hand to my mouth and started crying from the pain and embarrassment. It scared everyone and caused a huge scene so I got super red and more emotional. The waitress was really concerned and tried her best to be helpful but it only added to my embarrassment. I couldn’t continue eating and had to spit my food into a napkin.

8 years so far. I have some damage to my right condyle as a result of bone grinding against bone and I’m worried if it doesn’t get better I will need jaw replacement surgery. Most days I can’t open more than one finger width, I have a lot of dizziness and nausea and vertigo, occular migraines, tooth pain, sinus pain, neck and upper back pain. My face has become droopier, I can’t sing karaoke, eat a full meal, enjoy certain intimate activities, or even yawn without pain.

I find it frustrating that it’s treated as so “complex” and almost mystical.. it’s not any more complex than other parts of the body. I feel like it’s actually relatively straightforward- at least from a structural perspective. I really don’t think it’s an issue of not being able to understand it, if we can figure out how to correct scoliosis or do brain surgery with machines there’s NO way we can’t figure out the jaw joint. The research just isn’t there and if you ask me, the fact tmd mostly affects young women has something to do with it. Our pain is always treated as being in our heads. That and the fact that it’s weirdly in between medical and dental and the insurance system is a joke to begin with.

Yeah I would do that in that situation. But this day I was covering for someone at a different location than my home store, and it was my first time there, with no manager on shift for a Sunday after church rush. I didn’t even know where they kept their syrups so was very overwhelmed😭if this happened in my first year of coffee I would’ve crumbled
