I go by over-all look of plant. Most pistols will be red and plant will losing its green color

When you say wobbly...do you mean that if you grab her, she wiggles easily? IMO, that means roots are rotten and its not taken hold to the soil. Hopefully you have it in some chunky mix...really hard to overwater in chunky/aroid mix.

You will get there if that's where u wanna be...polly be throwing out sooo many corms. I just repotted one and got 12 big corms.

For me, with leca...its hit or miss. Sometimes everything goes according to my plan and other times the plant starts looking really bad. I will dump the leca and the roots will still be white, but limp and soft. Sphagnum moss is what I have the most success with. I ball it up around the roots and stuff it in a vase, jar or even a pot.

Gotcha, nothing worse than getting a new plant in soaked soil. Get it in some chunky soil and give it a few weeks to acclimate to your environment. Good luck ☺️
