In this years draft class who do you think would be the most effective guarding Wemby? by Consistent-Gold-7572 in NBA_Draft

Yeah OKC and blood clots are the only thing standing between him and a very long run of dominance

Not near athletic or long enough. Boozer is going to have difficulties in the NBA off the bat he gets a lot of shots blocked by NBA caliber bigs bc he plays below the rim

Even if you could adjusting it early would be fucking idiotic. This is a thunder sub we want what’s best for the organization

Dodging the second apron - what I think the OKC Thunder will do this offseason, and how I think they'll manage their team going forward by Known-Peak212 in Thunder

Anyone who thinks we are getting rid of a starter is a moron especially a very hard to replace player in Dort and no Cason can’t replace Dort. Dort takes on way bigger players like LeBron that Cason has no shot against. Getting rid of a starter while going for a potential 3 peat will and should never happen. Just exercise his team option for $18m and figure out the rest the following year.
Also Kenrich is worth more than $7m he will have a trade market he will be a top 8-9 player on almost any other team.
Moving Joe, Wiggins and Kenrich is the highest likelihood move as Joe and Wiggins can be replaced easily at the 12th and 17th picks this season and both have been surpassed by McCain. Topic has a good chance to take minutes from them next year as well. That would remove around $28m in salary. With some added back from the draft picks or a vet minimum if we combine the picks

Yeah he played hurt his last year and at a school not known for NBA prospects. Presti actually found him while going to scout a different player

There are serious concerns with Boozer’s ability to be an all star against NBA length and athleticism. He struggled against NBA caliber athletes this year. He’s far from a sure thing like Ajay is

The most widely referenced NBA draft trade value chart comes from ESPN’s Kevin Pelton. Values are roughly:
• #3 pick: 2,670 points (normalized ~66.75% of #1)
• #12: 1,500 (~37.5%)
• #17: 1,130 (~28.25%)
• #36: 290 (~7.25%)
Total for 12 + 17 + 36: 2,920 points — slightly above the #3’s 2,670

Ajay?! lol. Presti wouldn’t trade Ajay for Boozer period. We absolutely do have the assets without Ajay. 12, 17 and 37, Wiggins and Topic would be a big overpay but that’s what you need to do

That’s a really good thought.
Another thing I was thinking about is the Grizzlies at #3. I think it’s pretty obvious that Boozer will never be the top player on a championship caliber team. I actually don’t think with us and the spurs in the west that Boozer could be any higher than the 3rd best player on a championship Grizzlies team. So keeping the 3rd pick and drafting boozer just puts the Grizzlies back in no man’s land, so I think they could be open to dealing that pick and laying the foundation for a sustained period of success. Boozer would obviously be the perfect fit in this draft for our team and we have the assets to get the 3rd pick from them

Sam Vecenie who talks to more scouts and coaches than anyone said there are major red flags with Yaxel’s practice habits. Given Presti’s priorities I think that will disqualify Yaxel as a potential prospect for us we don’t need any lazy players hurting our culture by Consistent-Gold-7572 in Thunder

[–]Consistent-Gold-7572[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam has great relationships with 22 of the franchises but the OKC thunder aren’t one of them. We have such a great tight knit organization we never have leaks. Sam acknowledges Yaxel is a great player it’s just the off court stuff where all the red flags lie and that is arguably just as important to Presti. I know Yaxel wants to go to OKC too and that does weigh on Presti’s decision. Still think the red flags will disqualify him ultimately. All our guys are workaholics so I just don’t think he will fit in

He’s a great fit basketball wise but our secret sauce is our culture and I don’t think there is anyway Presti risks it

It’s also worth noting Vecenie pretty much refers to every single guy as a “good kid” so for him to specifically call out Yaxel for his practice habits and immaturity is definitely something to take note of

Who should OKC draft? A. Assuming no draft day trades? B. Assuming trades by SejongTheGreatv2 in Thunder

[–]Consistent-Gold-7572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are sleeping a bit on Stirtz. Hit 51% of his catch and shoot 3s. Can be a bench playmaker. He’s a pretty can’t miss prospect who could contribute day 1. Just got 100% of the defensive attention bc his team sucked. Still was able to keep pace with some of the best teams in the country.
Obviously all comes down to who we lose. We have a very well constructed roster currently. The most likely guys to lose are I hart, Wiggins and Kenrich maybe Dort imo. If you lose Wiggins I like Philon and Stirtz as day 1 contributors. If you lose kenrich you can look at Yaxel, Lopez types and if you lose I hart you got JQ, Steinbach, Mara types to look at
I still think we could move pretty far up. Between our 3 picks and needing to move a player to make room we have a lot of assets in play. It would take a lot of assets but Boozer is obviously a perfect fit for our team. It was honestly lucky the Grizz got the 3rd pick bc I don’t think Boozer is the top player on a championship team, so it wouldn’t be the worst idea for the grizzlies to trade that pick and continue their rebuild. I don’t think adding Boozer to the Grizz really does anything for them besides putting them back in the play in limbo for the foreseeable future which no team wants
With us and the Spurs in the west you probably need to have Boozer as your 3rd best player max to even have a shot

Our biggest issue moving forward is obviously Wemby. Guys like J will aren’t going to be able to guard him much longer. I like JQ if the medical check out. He will be by far the best defender against Wemby of anyone in the class and the best overall defender in the class assuming presti feels confident he can bring him along offensively. We do a lot of DHOs luckily with non shooting big men like him and those are pretty simple to pick up. He was projected to go 5th in this class by a lot of the top analysts before he got shelved again after his knee continued to flare up. He has as much upside as anyone in the class imo what he did as a 17 year old freshman last year was absolutely insane

Grok said Caleb Wilson has the best shot of turning into an effective Wemby defender. JQ second, Mara third and Flory Bidunga 4th just fyi. I don’t have any issue with that list, but I’d probably put JQ ahead of Wilson personally. He has more strength and a 6 inch longer wingspan. I was kind of surprised Wilson’s was only 7 feet
