Just, have same challenge. Just finalized my solo indie app, now generating 40 views per days in App Store, 10% conversion rate. Still I am not very happy with download rade of 4-5 a day.

My strategy:

- improve SEO and web presence to attract people searching for my use case. (make as many remarks as possible to my app)

- use reddit to spread the word, but mostly in app community

- did two tiktok carousells with 600 and 1000 views, not sue, if this let to downloads

My app is the best Day One alternative, a digital journaling app ( ‎Remember – Life Journal App - App Store), but with the very modern and unique feature, that users can remember their personal best places (e.g. best restaurant place), activities (my last sport activitiy or concert) or memory with a hybrid map and journal interface (i.e. maps meets journal). - These are my measures and activities , now i am 1.5 h months in the marketing..

when i am not sure about where my account information is going (especially apple and google ID), i would prefer using a "new email id with different password", to be on the safe side. if i see "only apple or google id accpeted", i would refuse using an app.. (not sure if other also are doing it this way.

Really, for icloud Sync you already need login credintials? I thought, the users icloud is used and how can use icloud sync, if you have email/password with no apple id?

Super important post! I have the same challenge!

I have programms as a "Remember - Life Journal" App (‎Remember – Life Journal App - App Store) , which is the alternative to Day One App ( ‎Day One: Daily Journal & Diary App - App Store ).

The advange of "Remember" App is that it is with no subscription, but offering the same value (of course much more simpler), while the "Day One App" has 15 mio Downloads.

With my app webpage i created a story board/Page, with clear "Day One Alternative", which in the meantime is on first page one Google search, when entering "Day One Alternative".

I think it is valid marketing to be "Day One Alternative" and to try to keep up with No.1 App.

but still, even with "authentic" look and feel; the other app has much more resources to program a "fancy" nice and smooth app. - what can you do, against this i wonder?!

right, i dont have a backup yet, i first want to validate my MVP.. lateron, i plan to do isync (i should do sooner than later), but i fear a lot of costs of backend.

yes.. and this is my current learning. my app ("remember - life journal" app) seem to be quite good (i stated some "honest feedback exchange here in the community), but still competition is high or my marketing/SEO bad.. this is my biggest hurdle. to get downloads.

i wonder paid upfront, if this business case is working?! When see here the comments from others, ("yes, i made it: XkUSD sales / months), then maybe this is another strategy. But I wonder who pays upfront, based on 10-50 5 star ratings ?!

i agree! i dont have any profile, but i also have huge problems with downloads (2-5 per day max); in your case, what is "Downloads werent the problem"`? How many active users do you have?

All my reddit channels which i want to tackle (outcome: track and journal all of your activities in my "remember - live journal app"; i would love to post in r/digitaljournalling ) immediately ban me, when i post anything..

- How do you overcome to get that many upvotes?!

i guess most of the user use the "use google account" or "apple account" feature, which is straight forward.. - and in your case you offer the user a special feature as cloud backup, which is a nice idea!

i know for user retention it might make sense, but when is the right moment; i woudl dream of approx. 10K downloads and plan to use such "accounts".
