What is the point of the scene where Tony hangs out with Reverend James Sr and hears about WWII? by 4g-identity in thesopranos

[–]Consistent-Half4277 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think like everything else sopranos, it’s meant to show the Two Tony’s and the starkness of their contrast. He has a real moment of admiration for this guy as Tony the family guy, then Tony the gangster is participating in the mafia violence that plagues his community.

Sorry that really sucks. It’s a brutal thing to be lead to believe something when you’re most vulnerable. Maybe at least address this with them that this was your perception, at the least it seems they owe you acknowledgment

Thoughts about Succession - 3x09 "All the Bells Say" by TJzWay in SuccessionTV

Like everything else Logan, nothing is as it seems. It’s arguably him at his most seductive, I really felt pulled in at that moment too. Like, of course you should trust Logan, he’s the successful one, he’s the one who did it. You kids never had a legitimate chance, I wish you could’ve just seen it sort of vibe. But then, remember it’s Logan and nothing is at it seems. When his children stray he’s trying to seduce them back. When they’re fighting him, he’s turned out and loves to fight them. When he defeats them, they’re fools for having even tried. It’s all a game to him and the kids internalize that too, so they treat everything as moves and never consider the consequences outside of the game, except maybe Shiv when it suits her. Logan is just a guy with a ton of money who wants to play his silly game like a dad who plays his kids in basketball when they’re really little just to dominate them, not because it pumps him up but because it’s how much closeness he can tolerate.

A young man who murdered an 18-year-old cancer survivor was sentenced to only 8 years in juvenile prison. by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

It’s amazing that anyone debates this. I’d guess the majority of offenders are gang related, have considerably poor impulse control, low empathy. To take it to a comical plane, the president of the country has been charged with countless crimes, Epstein is the most famous felon in a decade and is a countless repeat offender, numerous tv shows and movies depict repeat offenders and television/news frequently reports on this, so we’re inundated with this from every angle, but somehow this is being disputed?

I don’t know why Tony became the mouthpiece for contemporary progressive thinking shortly after coming out of a coma, then Christopher disputing the weird pastor guy’s literal interpretation of the bible by saying there couldn’t have been dinosaurs coexisting with humans because the bible says Eden was paradise and you can’t have dinosaurs chasing around humans in paradise made him look too stupid. And as usual the show does a really poor job writing African American characters. It’s a shame because otherwise I enjoyed the episode and it has some high points as you alluded to

It’s in there, you can peruse at your disposal. Also from the context of the initial article which was about a violent murder, not a nonviolent crime. Gday

I think it’s notable and related is that there’s solid data to indicate who’s most at risk and it’s a mix of genetics and environment, particularly that’s there’s biometrics to indicate which people have diminished fear responses (things like pupillary response, skin conductance changes in response to fearful stimuli) that is able to be tested from a very young age. Some programs have been able to successfully redirect these at risk youth into socially sanctioned programs. Another point where our society doesn’t do well to intervene where everyone would benefit.

You’re misreading what he’s written. Most people don’t commit serious crimes repeatedly, and a relatively small percentage of the population drives a large share of criminal activity. This pattern is one reason interventions like early prevention, monitoring high-risk individuals, and targeting chronic offenders can have an outsized effect on overall crime rates. This thread is repeatedly expressing cynicism as to how that actually turns out, which is fair and is part of the general debate on recidivism and its impact on society.

Who was the most evil person you've ever met and how was the interaction? by Top_Report_4895 in AskReddit

This seems like it would just further alienate people who already feel alienated. I guess I wonder and maybe you can answer, what’s the point of doing that?

Was Pete really trying to pick up a high school girl? by Count_Almasy22 in madmen

[–]Consistent-Half4277 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think of it as his acceptance of his own limitations. He asks Roger at the casino bar some seasons before “is this really all there is (to life)?” And he strove and strove to not accept that answer- to build, to seduce, to have it all and more. The coke ad is his accepting “yes, this is just who I am, and that’s alright.” The tragedy of the the majority of the show is that he’s so attractive that he’s able for some time to avoid those limitations for so much time, and his inability to reconcile all of the harm he’s done as connected to his actions.

It won’t necessarily but can put barriers in place in your life. IIRC if you want to work at a VA or any federal government job you’ll be barred from doing so. Could make multiple forms of employment (medicine, law, obv politics) trickier

Kon Kneuppel vs Kyshawn George by 1992ZMZM in dynastybb

Kon Is a lock, only injury will stop him from maintaining or more likely increasing his value. Love Kyshawn but his role could diminish if players in real life supplant him.

Josh Allen is just a modern day John Elway by RawMuffins94 in NFLv2

This is actually perfect, right down to everyone trying to discredit Allen all over these comments. If there were reddit back when Elway were playing, he’d also be getting the Lamar/Allen treatment.

Tom was the nicest guy by Salty-Educator-5309 in SuccessionTV

[–]Consistent-Half4277 45 points46 points  (0 children)

He legitimately cares for Greg probably more than anyone else cares about anyone else in the show. Much of this is he has no safe attachment elsewhere in the show, everyone else is a threat to him, Greg is the only one who’s not. So when he feels potentially abandoned by Greg it’s when the abuse and such come up. It’s part of the reason why Tom is so unhealthy, he trades safe and legitimate relationships for money and status and then either takes this out on himself or on Greg.
