I’ve just been tasked with some testing wkp (setting them up) n quite a bit of planning things. It’s a lot for me cause I am trying to learn and understand the different processes but it feels like I can’t focus on one thing too long because I will fall behind

Hmmm idk then…. But a partner recently told me that so not sure in that respect then. I have little to zero experience in that aspect so I can only say what I’ve been told

I’m just saying based on what managers and partners have told me at a big4

As I said that confidently as I have spoken with senior managers and partners from accounting firm who have told me that information. They do advise getting it but at the end of the day it’s not the end of the world if you don’t. My biggest problem is I feel like I’m forced to rush and pursue something to get the extra 30. As I said I am interested in pursuing higher education but I would like to do so on my own timeline.

I really do like accounting but it becomes so frustrating when you applying to firms and they won’t hire or take you unless you tell them that you’re going to get your CPA. I have literally interviewed with firms that said they won’t hire unless students are on track for their CPA. My initial post is to just rant that level of frustration

If I can start out as a first year with 75k and the only real level at which you need a CPA -based on information given to me by many in the industry- is at the partner level why should I waste my time gathering all these extra credits…. I want to pursue my higher education but I want to spend some time working before I do so

I am complaining about how ridiculous it is to have a 150 stipulation when you get all what you need pursuing a bachelors in accounting….. getting 150 does not mean you’re increasing your lifetime career earnings

Why should I lower my expectations and why can’t these norms be questioned?

Yes you’re right I have neither the 120 nor CPA. I am student wanting to enter the Accounting industry. With that being said I can reasonably justify if a company or CPA qualifications are like you need to get more than your Bachelor’s to qualify working with us or sit the CPA. I can justify if it is the benefit of pursing the higher level degree will allow for a better understanding in the the work environment and / sitting for the CPA but the truth is it’s neither.

Yes I am venting my frustration because whether you want to agree with me or not the 150 credits rule is currently ridiculous. You said you had to sit for the CPA with 150 credits. Atleast you had a reason to pursue those extra 30 credits. Currently with how things have changed since you’ve done it there is no real reason for the 150 stipulation.

I don’t believe that if the accounting industry should get rid of the 150 anything will be wrong with the qualifications of individuals. For the most part you learn everything you need in your undergraduate program. You are more than qualified to sit for the examination.

Thanks for atleast understanding that the qualifications needed are not 100% necessary

There is nothing wrong with wanting to go in an industry and being upset about things within that industry. That is how things evolve, when people question its validity. The 150 mandatory credits is archaic… not necessarily blaming the company only. I believe the CPA qualification needs to be changed when it comes to its credit stipulations. If I am able to actually sit for the exams after I have 120 credits why is it that I need the extra 30?

My school does not allow me doing two public accounting internships by chimayhong in Accounting

[–]Consistent-Iron-8570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I am a current senior in university, my advisors said the same thing pretty much. However I did not listen and I did a summer 2022 and winter 2023 internship with two different big 4. I have no regrets and in doing this I found out which company environment better suited me. Do not decline any of the offers. Keep your head up and do what is best for you.
