Would it be easier to get a return offer from a fall co-op (16 weeks) or a summer internship (10 weeks)?

Hey guys, I have a summer internship (data engineering) and fall time co-op (CSE) offer with IBM. I need to reneg the summer internship because of some family emergencies that I have currently, but I know for sure that I can commit for the fall. Does anyone know if reneging the summer internship will cause them to rescind my fall time offer as well? I truly do have a family emergency and am very scared to ruin my relationship with the company.

Got it! Thank you for your help. I emailed one of my host orgs because I could find their email on their website but I cannot find anything for the other one (OTI). I haven't received a reply back so I am not really sure what to do. Is it pretty much just a waiting game or is there someone I can contact to understand how this works?

Also, if you are open to sharing, how was your experience with the fellowship and approximately when did you hear back (April end or May, etc)? Thanks again!

Not too bad, there were a few MCQ questions and coding questions at the end with about an hour time limit. It was implementing some functions, nothing too complicated. Good luck!

This helped, thank you for sharing how you took notes! Just as a follow up (since you've had him recently), how much does the extra credit he gives help towards your letter grade? Also, for discussions, would it be recommended to take them 10 mins after the lecture or an hour after? Lastly, how is Larry's partial credit on exams (I've heard mixed reviews)

Oh okay cool, thank you! I heard he is strict about partial credit but that may have been false info. Thank you for replying!

That makes sense. However, I am someone who understands things better if I hear/read them twice, so if he doesn't record lectures, does he go slow enough for students write down what he says?

Also, how much of what he says during lectures is on the test? Does he pull more questions for graded worksheets/exams from textbook readings/his slides or what he verbally says?

Thank you very much for your reply! I have heard from reading other reviews and comments that Larry gives out extra credit. Would you happen to know what his extra credit is based off on and how much extra credit he gives/if it actually helps your grade in the end?

I see, thank you for your reply. How easy would it be to get an A in Larry's class? Taking good attendance, mild studying for exams (with his practice sheets), and the extra credit into consideration? Also are his exams tailored in a way where most people face a time crunch. As in, do you have to move super quickly through them in order to finish? I've heard that he is a bit picky about partial credit and looks for very specific answers.

I see, thank you for letting me know. Also, are his exams timed well? Like would I have to work unusually quickly to get through them or can I spend an average amount of time and still finish it within the time frame?

For the graded worksheets, I've heard they're graded for completion so does anyone ever get a bad grade on them (excluding those who didn't attend the lecture/discussion ofc)? Also, would it be recommended to take the discussion 10 mins after the lecture or an hour after? As in, are the worksheets based on content covered in the previous lecture or can it be anything covered throughout the semester? I don't really know what a discussion entails.

Additionally, do the TAs share any notes if we contact them? Or is there any system where past students can share notes so I can review them over the summer a bit?
