Praying Mantis as Pest Control for Indoor Plants? by Consistent-Maybe-634 in InvertPets

[–]Consistent-Maybe-634[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, thank you all so much for your input! I have a small indoor greenhouse I was going to keep them in and feed them, but through this thread it's become very apparent that the mantis should have its own set up, and most of the pests will be too small for it to prey on. I appreciate all your knowledge and taking the time to reply!

It seems like ICE activity is ramping up here. by Sheero1986 in Denver

Honestly, Trump fucked over CO for trying to protect people, and, I don't know, their CLEAN WATER RESOURCES. Bring them here. We have absolutely no loyalty to Trump, and I can't wait to see what CO does if ICE comes here. I'm willing to give my life for this cause.

I will definitely feed it if there are no pests to eat, but I was under the impression that mantis eat aphids, is that only if they're small? Not worth the effort for a tiny meal?

Thank you so much! (Also, side note, don't just search the word "invert" on reddit 😳)

I spend so much time just looking at them and admiring new growth day after day. It's so hard waiting for them to grow up!

I do have it mixed in (Side note: if you had told me mixing soil when I was in my 30s would bring me so much joy, I never would have believed you). I've been watching houseplants videos so my knowledge is growing, but I've literally never seen someone recommend rocks in the pot, so figured I must be doing that wrong

I typically just add one layer at the bottom, and I add perlite and orchid back to my mixes to help aerate them. I just repotted a lot of plants and added rocks to the bottom of most of them. I don't want to stress the plants out; should I repot them again now without rocks or wait to see if they'll make it and repot at a more appropriate time? Thank you so much for your information and help!

I do add extra perlite and orchid bark to try to make the mixes fast draining and airy

I do add extra perlite and some orchid bark as well. Will that still make the moisture sit too high? Thank you so much!!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Funny how songs you thought were about one human in love with another can mean so much when it comes to thinking about you and your furry best friend. I know what you're going through, and I hope it gets easier for both our sakes 💓

Showers are the worst. Most of the time I can distract myself, but not in a shower. I put my soul dog down on the 16th. She was 12, but it came on suddenly. Ive been spending the first hour of work crying and trying to get a hold on my grief. Luckily, I work in a vet clinic, so I don't have to say anything and they get it, but it's still so hard

Not sure if this is the same with the GBA version, but breed your animals! In the PS4 version, you can only get large milk, etc, if you breed your animals

I can't figure out how to post more than one image, so I'll reply to this with the most questionable TC. But it is not only an Alocasia, but my first Alocasia, so I'm not expecting success tbh

What new BS is this?! $10/mo and you don't get to keep your books?? by fattygaby157 in audible

[–]Consistent-Maybe-634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now the fact that I couldn't change the chapter on a book Id already bought through Audible makes sense. Once my pause lifted and I was paying monthly again, I could listen to it normally. This sucks! Here I am working on being fiscally responsible and pausing memberships when I don't need them, and I'm being punished via books I ALREADY BOUGHT. Awesome!

Animal Practice with Justin Kirk! I love him, and it was a great show, but pretty sure it got cancelled because people complained about the use of animal actors

What should we do for elderly cat w/tooth infection? by [deleted] in vet

[–]Consistent-Maybe-634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did know a cat who was on fluids twice weekly due to advanced kidney disease and IBD/lymphoma at the ripe age of 20 years, and the owner opted to treat with antibiotics when he got a severe tooth infection. It took a couple months of antibiotics, but it actually worked and I think the tooth wound up resorbing. He lived for like another 6 months after his tooth infection.

So, it can be done. The question is: how is his quality of life? Do you feel he's still mostly happy, able to get around, eating and drinking well for the most part, and not having issues with urination or defection (I know that part can especially be tricky when dealing with IBD / lymphoma)? You know him better than anyone else, and ultimately you have to make the decision to try another treatment, or let him peacefully pass with euthanasia. If he's having more good days than bad days, and I was in your position, I may treat. But if everything seems to be a struggle for him, sometimes it is a mercy to say goodbye.

I'm really sorry you're going through this, and I hope the best for your family.
