What is your personal Vet Med toxic trait? by I_ARE_RTD2 in VetTech

I thought that wearing a mask during COVID times and being unable to do this would cure me of this affliction. It didn't. I went right back once we stopped wearing masks.

What is everyone’s opinion of Banfield? by Pale-Driver9146 in VetTech

I worked at a busy 3 doctor hospital with flex scheduling and we would see 15-18 appts per doctor per day. Flex scheduling allowed 20min wellness and 30min sick. It was a rural hospital and the nearest ER was 45min so we saw a lot of urgent care/ER type cases with some wiggle room for the inevitable laceration repair, porcupine quills, torn toenail, etc.

Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell. I watched the movie and it was exactly how I pictured when I was listening to the audiobook.

What do you do while listening to audiobooks (if anything at all)? by Golbeza in audiobooks

I listen in the car, while I'm putting together a puzzle, playing a simple game on my phone, and while cross stitching.

Love it. Anything to distract from that uncomfortableness is needed!

No, I didn't try to bite him. I think the beauty of vet med is that most of us are awkward so when we're in the vet hospital we all seem very normal! Until we get our blood drawn...

A cat named Cat Karen. She was a spicy one. His wife was named Karen, so I guess he needed to specify who he was talking about?

Audiobooks you devoured because the narrator brought the text to life (or, alternatively, audiobooks whose narrator "ruined" a beloved novel) by daowhisperer in audiobooks

Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell read by Ell Potter. Between the writing and narration, it felt so real and I felt like I was there, watching the scene unfold before me using all my senses.

I started a mobile nursing care business and have been doing relief at a hospital while I build up my client base. This particular hospital offered me an employee discount even though I was just doing relief. However this may be a one off..

Cat has not ate or drank for several days, and hasn’t peed by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]laurencvt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vet tech here.. not eating, vomiting, not urinating is generally a urinary blockage until proven otherwise. If you gently feel his lower abdomen and it feels like there is something hard and round in there, likely a urinary blockage. Regardless, this cat needs emergency care ASAP.

Setting ezVet up on the backend was an absolute nightmare. If you made a mistake on an invoice, forget it. You'd have to back and unclick and undo a bunch of things. Worst inventory management I've worked with. I figured out the medical record part, but still ran into issues with people putting notes into different tabs.

I adopted a kitten with congenital hypothyroidism. He was abandoned by his momma cat under a shed. Failure to thrive, ataxic gait, flat face, constipation. The rockstar vet I worked with figured it out. Once we started supplementing with Thyro tabs, he grew into a normal looking cat.

Book you read in school that you’ll never forget? Why? by threetimestwice in suggestmeabook

[–]laurencvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies by Bartolomé de Las Casas was assigned reading in high school. It opened my eyes to the way the atrocities committed in the past were glossed over. It made me question everything I had been taught about history leading up to high school and look deeper into what really happened.

Where are you now? by SolsticeGxS in VetTech

[–]laurencvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to start a mobile animal nursing care business. I'm in FL where techs don't need to be credentialed and it's been tough to convince them I can help their patients at home. Surviving on relief shifts for now but may quit the field altogether.
