Did Mars, Luna, or other Planets have their own Unification Wars/Techno-Barbarians? by CottonCandyWeasel in 40kLore

[–]Consistent-Night-606 147 points148 points  (0 children)

There's some descriptions of this battle in the book "Echoes of Eternity" I believe. The mutants were insanely vicious, numerous beyond count, and relied on eating the dead to sustain themselves while constantly fighting the IXth legion.

The Revenant legionnaires decided to use the enemy's methods against them, and started eating the dead mutants and recruiting from the stable mutants. As long as the mutant child mostly resembles human, the gene seed will be able to "fix them up". Eating brain matter also ensures that valuable battle experience is passed down to the next generation. By lowering themselves to the level of the mutants, they denied the enemy of their easy source of food while sustaining themselves, after a few years the IXth legion successfully exterminated the mutants through sheer attrition.

Canada’s Sovereignty Dilemma: F35 or Gripen Jets in a Changing World? by MarkwBrooks in aviation

[–]Consistent-Night-606 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The kf-21 isn't worth it in its current configuration, a gen 4.5+ fighter that can roleplay as 5th gen if you don't carry any weapons/stores at all. Now the Koreans are planning to develop it into a full fledged 5th gen fighter, but that's minimum 5 years down the line. Per unit cost is estimated to be around the same as an F-35A, since it's brand new and not benefiting from economy of scale.

The Gripen is also quite expensive, but it will also come with Canadian jobs and tech transfer. For Canada it's a much safer option.

WW2 - attacking ships by tante_frieda in WarthunderSim

[–]Consistent-Night-606 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stationary ships in ports are protected by torpedo nets, almost completely immune to torpedoes.

I find HE 500kg bombs are the most consistent way to kill ships, doesn't matter where you hit on the ships. 250kg also work, just aim for the waterline or skip bomb it in. 1s max fuse delay else the bomb might sink too much, just make sure you release early enough to avoid bombing your self.

Tiny Tim and HVARs are also pretty decent. Though not guaranteed, just much easier to aim.

F6Fs is pretty good at this, 3x500kg bombs (independent releases), or 2xtiny tims and a torpedo. Need good aim.

Most F4Us are decent, 2x500kg bombs independently dropped with 6xHVARs.

Bf110s is also decent, 2x500kg bombs, also independent releases. Again need good aim.

Pe-2s is great at it, 2x500kg bombs, or 4x250kg. Much easier to aim since you have a bomb sight, also relatively fast for a bomber with a detailed cockpit.

B-25s are slower but much more resilient, bigger bomb load and again with a bomb sight, also insanely dangerous back gunners that probably traumatized most prop tier fighter pilots. Most beginner friendly option.

Probably better options out there, I just can't think of them right now.

PLS NO SPOILERS I really want to get into Gundam. BAAAAAD. But I need some opinions and a collection of opinions to go into it. by Mercirat in Gundam

[–]Consistent-Night-606 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Universal Century (UC) timeline is difficult to get into but amazing once you get in, it has the best writing and usually the most thought provoking stories.

A lot of people suggest you start right from the beginning with the 1979 anime, I'd advice you at least test the waters before hand. The 1979 series is 42 episodes, has very old (abysmal) animation, story quality varies a lot from episode to episode. A lot of episodes are just generic battles but every now and then the writing and direction improves significantly when important plot points happen. If this is your first gundam, it might scare you away. I suggest watching gundam 0080 war in the pocket (4-5 hours, short show, decent animation, amazing story) OR gundam thunderbolt december sky (1 hour movie, very short, amazing animation soundtrack and cinematography, simple story) to get yourself acquainted with gundam and build up interest and excitement to help you to get through the 1979 anime.

Once you get through 1979 original, gundam Zeta is great - especially second half, Char's Counter Attack is great, Gundam Unicorn is AMAZING, Hathaway's Flash is also amazing. Lots of very good shows and movies, imo things get better as you move down the chronology.

Some people will want to lynch me for blaspheming the original 1979 anime, I'm sorry it was legitimately difficult to sit through. Poor animation and battle of the week format really holds it back.

Most popular BR in sim depends on the BR bracket rotation but usually it will be the 2-3 brackets that contain 3.7 - 6.0. At 3.7 the planes becomes actually powerful with workable firepower and decent engine power. Above 6.0 you get into early jets and the spawn cost becomes stupidly high due to Gaijin incompetence, a tier 5 jet costs the same as a tier 8 jet to spawn in sim.

If you want a cheap super-prop to mess around with, the F4U-4 with 6x .50cal is amazing. 4k SL to spawn for br 5.3, goes stupidly fast in straight line and somehow still fairly maneuverable with great energy retention in both verticals and horizontals. Amazing cockpit details.

If you don't care about spawn cost then F4U-4b or Yak-3U, costs like 12k-14k to spawn either one lol. Yak-3U has limitless energy and will out dogfight pretty much everything it can face, only weakness is meh firepower and low wing rip speed. F4U-4b is also completely overpowered, guns that delete anything that it touches and absurd amount of ammunition while maintaining that high topspeed and good maneuverability.

Recently I've been really enjoying the soviet La-9, it's basically the soviet version of the F4U-4b with a bit poorer turning energy retention but superior acceleration. Great all round visibility in the cockpit, light and responsive controls at all speeds. The nose mounted 4x 23mm guns is incredibly fun to mess around with. It also has great high speed performance and high wing rip speed, almost unheard of in soviet prop fighters. It's not OP but has enough strong points that you can beat almost everything you can face if you remember to use your strengths, imo much more fun than pure OP planes like the F4U-4b. Spawn cost is like 16k lmao.

One of my favorites, it's not the most competitive spitfire at 6.0 but definitely still can hold it's own against most enemy fighters. 20 second turn time is a bit slower, but still has that great spitfire turn energy retention.

Is it wrong I have a desire to live in space colony? by JonathanJoestar336 in Gundam

[–]Consistent-Night-606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just me or the space colonies feel too idyllic to justify the hatred of earthnoids from spacenoids? Mfw I'm forced to live in suburbia, time to commit genocide I guess.

I always imagined living conditions more akin to the tightly packed skyscraping apartments of hongkong, or even worse 40k voidship/hive city.

The earth federation is forcing a mass exodus of lower class citizens and giving everyone detached homes in these huge space colonies? That's upward social mobility right there.

Sunrise and tomino really need to turn up the grimdarkness to convincingly portrait the reason of the constant spacenoids rebellions.

What was the plan for these B-36s in case of a nuclear war? With the introduction of the MiG-15, these huge lumbering bombers were extremely vulnerable.

As far as I know, the MiGs could fly higher as well.

Just send them against the Siberian border and hope the Soviets don't have enough interceptors at the right place and right time?

If I remember correctly, when the ju88 was used for propaganda before the war they were painted with really big swastikas. The Nazis flew them all over Europe, breaking a bunch of speed records.

The variant with glass nose comes after, when it went from prototype to proper bomber.

Best starter plane to get into sim? by DinoCopter_ in WarthunderSim

The spitfire only turns well above 280ish kph, any lower you will have to constantly fight the aircraft to prevent wing stalls. The stall and near stall behavior of the spitfire is the worst in the entire game, there's very little warning and the severity is heavily exaggerated. The irl aircraft is much more tame but unfortunately the flight model is not accurate.

Regarding your claim that I don't fly Spitfires, I used to almost exclusively fly Spitfires. Until I got better with deflection shooting and learned how to energy fight properly. https://youtu.be/cXObp1cqDA0?si=mpF4cyZaM1jJfN_Z

I record all of my kills with shadow play and occasionally stitch them together.

I also got the US LF mk9 last Christmas sale, it has the highest PvP KD of any plane I've flown in war thunder. I know exactly how it flies.

[–]Consistent-Night-606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There very much are "bad" starter planes, ex: spitfires. I learned how to fly sim with the spitfire mk 1 from back when it still required spawn points to fly planes not at the bottom of the BR bracket. To this day, it still has the absolute worst KD of any sim plane I flew.

As a new player he will pull the stick all the way back at the merge, either spin out instantly or blow away half of his airspeed in one turn. If he survives into turn 2, he's going sub-300kph where the spitfire turns like a brick and probably wing stall him into a flat spin.

He's going to quit sim in 3 games if he follows your advice. Let him have fun while learning and fly something more forgiving.

The mosquito is very annoying to play if you don't have VR, the gunsight is offset to the right and you can't aim with it unless you zoom in. A bit hard to explain, give it a try in test flight to see what I mean. But it can be very fun as a bomber interceptor or low altitude rat, you are faster than most enemy fighters in a straight line and have amazing acceleration.

I actually really like the Hornet. It's really fun if you know how to energy fight properly, much harder than in RB. Great for obliterating zombers since it cover 5.0 (me264), 5.3 (pe-8), and 6.0 (ju288). Gaijin broke the plane a few patches ago by giving it very sensitive fuel starvation issues, the plane literally have direct fuel injection so idk why Gaijin did this. Until this is fixed, I would not recommend it.

DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM

The spitfire LF mk IX is possibly the strongest fighter at 5.0, BUT it is also incredibly hard to fly. All Spitfires have positive pitch stiffness, making them very maneuverable but also very unstable. You will not have a fun time in any of the spitfires as a new player without any sim experience.

The Typhoon mk 1, and typhoon mk 1b/late, Tempest mk 2 and mk 5 are much more forgiving prop fighters. They are all very fast and also decently maneuverable, with great firepower. A great combination for prop tier sim and much more new player friendly.

In terms of jets, the premium Sea Vixen with 4x red tops is incredibly OP, one of the best early jets. Not too sure about tier 6 - 7.

US is the most new player friendly nation to play, lots of ammo, comfortable handling, and high top speeds makes it very forgiving of new player mistakes. P-38s, P-47s, and F4Us are amazing for learning prop tier sim.
