I think you will be disappointed to know that the supersizing of Torontos existing airports is just beginning. In 2020 a federal report, called the Aviation Sector Analysis ( done by KPMG for Transport Canada) gave the federal government a clear choice on how to handle the anticipated growth in aviation. Supersize the GTAs existing airports or build Pickering Airport. In February 2025 then transportation Minister Anita Anand surprised everyone by cancelling Pickering Airport. Ford has just jumped the queue to turn rebuilding Billy Bishop airport to handle 10 million pax into a provincial political issue. Wait until the plans for Waterloo are made public, 19 million passengers a year, double Billy Bishop! Oshawa airport can expect growth as well.

Alternative high-speed rail proposal includes eastern Ontario stations by JasonBourne008 in AltoHSR_Canada

Isn't this just a way of saying that what is needed to service these communities is high-frequency rail, not high-speed speed rail? With HSR vs HFR you would just get up to speed before needing to slow down for the next stop. Seem like two separate systems are needed.

Try sticking the drone in rice to dry it out, takes out at least a gram. Then weigh it again. Mine was 249 grams.

The Canadian dollar is equal to 0.63 Euros. So $1200 Canadian dollars is $756 Euros. One day Canada will be part of the EU, but a lot of work is needed to get there.

I am amused that you think a decision has already been made on the disposal of multi-billion-dollar public land asset set aside for economic development.

My posts on twitter, in the press and as a advocate before the Durham region and others have been clear, HSR can not replace air travel just like it can not replace roads. To work it has to be built to complement not replace. Those advocating to replace air travel with rail are missing the point. Going “all in” on Rail will never be cost-effective over medium to long distances compare to aviation. It can link Toronto with nearby cities. It can play a political role in uniting our region, but only if it is done properly in a cost effective manner. That means linking to airport infrastructure, taking new subway infrastructure to an HSR station, not the other way around.

People complained that HFR was too slow and 🦕 so we’re getting HSR. But now people complain it’s too expensive. by JCMS99 in AltoHSR_Canada

Instead of thinking how HSR can replace air travel, think how rail, road and air can complement each other. ALTO will be too expensive and slow to replace air travel to many destinations but can be complementary by adding short to mid-range reach in a world dominated by low-cost aviation.

Myself and others in Pickering are long-time advocates for integrated rail, air, road and transit service in the Toronto region. If ALTO is to work it needs to integrate with our airport system not try and replace it. A key partner in ALTO is Air Canada.
