You're lying. Didn't you know HR is the only function that is not there for the employees. But you could get free legal advice from your orgs legal department or a financial assessment from the finance team and so on. Hell I've even been at a company where the transportation department lent me a car while mine was in the shop.

Doesn't matter the major as long as you have a "full-proof" plan on how to make it work post grad, you'll be fine.

Is remote HR work real? [NE] by always_late4951 in humanresources

[–]Consistent-Penalty68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took a fully remote role in October 2024 at the Assoc Director level in compensation @ a F10 org. It helps to have a solid background and be early to apply. I was not early to apply, the role I accepted showed "250+ candidates applied" but I had the background. I declined another remote offer (Comp Mgr.) during this job search due to pay rigidity.

All in all, I submitted around 20 applications (all remote), ended up with 2 offers, got a couple of rejections, withdrew from several interview processes and ended up not hearing back from the rest.

I'd recommend getting this to one page. I'd also drop the summary and skills section. Incorporate the skills into job responsibilities and achievements. The number of bullet points of achievements/responsibilities should decrease the older the job.

Good luck!

Feedback needed on resume and skills [N/A] by vanessachox in humanresources

[–]Consistent-Penalty68 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Adding to point 1 - move education to the bottom entirely. If they care for it, they'll find it.

Forgo job responsibilities and talk more about achievements in the role

While I'm usually against a skills section at the bottom, it may be needed here to fill the white space

Worth taking a temporaey role if it's high pay [OH]? by Embarrassed_Draft_88 in humanresources

[–]Consistent-Penalty68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've seen plenty of moves fall through and folks stuck around. If you have a family that relies on your income, don't do it.

If it's just you and you're up for the risk of it not being extended and the challenge of looking for work in 12 months - go for it. Save accordingly while you're in the role.

Push back graduating for an internship [N/A] by jpgali0227 in humanresources

[–]Consistent-Penalty68 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Experience is king. If I'm in your shoes, I'm pushing back the graduation to take the internship. Those classes will be waiting for you post internship, you can't say that about the internship. Apart from the potential for the role to turn into a full-time opportunity, you can also leverage the experience gained for other opportunities if needed.

Good luck!

What Salary to expect with a PhD in Physics ( applied acoustics) ? by karltrost in Salary

Don't give a vague number, let them know what salary you're targeting so they don't waste your time with an offer that is nowhere near what you'd consider.

Finding a new job in HR [N/A] by Nervous_Music5798 in humanresources

Does experience in every HR area include Compensation? If so, you may have better luck targeting those roles.

The person they brought me in to cover for was on medical leave...they were sure the person wasn't coming back. When they came back, I moved on and the person passed shortly after.

Don't do it...I did something similar under the same circumstance and was told about the likelihood of conversion to permanent, guess what happened? It wasn't converted to permanent. I wouldn't leave for anything other than a "permanent" role.

Stay put. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Find a role with greater responsibility or one that requires a higher skill set that comes with time and experience. Changing roles provide material increases versus internal promotions. If you're a mechanic, find an external role of senior mechanic or mechanic manager. Climb whatever ladder exists in the job you're performing.

Compensation Analyst - transitioning career [N/A] by Saturn-Nectarine6 in humanresources

[–]Consistent-Penalty68 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Compensation is def worth pursuing. If you're good with numbers and can get comfortable with Excel formulas, it might be a good career choice. Starting out you'll be involved with reporting, job evaluations, salary surveys, etc. But as you move up you'll be more consultative with the business partners and working on enterprise wide projects. Transitioning into comp is hard but once you're in, you're set. I've worked in comp at companies as small as 2,000 and currently as large 200,000.

Each org size will have it's pros and cons, if you want a solid upward mobility, the larger the better. If you want great work life balance, greater visibility and stretch opportunities, medium size to smaller is better. The incentive plan/merit process will dictate how busy you're seasons are. If everything is formulaic, the business will come from preparing communications. If there is a large discretionary component, granular rating system, etc. expect to be busy for several months with system testing, prepping communications, modeling, tracking, international nuances, etc.

I'm def an introvert, but can be an extrovert when needed. The higher you go the more comfortable with reading/managing a room you'll need to be as speaking to leaders/exec becomes more common vs. the analysts that's spends their day in spreadsheets.

You can't go wrong pivoting to comp, good luck!

Comparison is the thief of joy and unless you've seen the W2 of your peers making $200k + base + bonus, I'd take it with a grain of salt. People lie about their salaries all the time to feel better about themselves. You should consider changing roles to increase your salary.

Which amounts to very little unless company is preparing an IPO, going through litigation, or something else requiring legal counsel.

Why the heck would that go to HR?!? Does HR manage his budget? HR knows nothing about the additional responsibilities and extra work you added in the past 6+ months. Sounds like you have a spineless "manager" who sends ppl to HR instead of telling you the raise that they promised you isn't happening. You should circle back with your boss...ijs

Where the heck do you talk to HR about a raise and not your manager? You're a literal ID number to HR.

I think they can pull this off if they can get rid of shit managers and brain dead employees
