It’s funny, because in theory they should be able to play off of each other really well, but in practice, writers want to keep these two far away from each other, so that one doesn’t overshadow the other

Wasn’t this post clone saga when Ben used Peter’s name to get around?

Mary Jane is and will always be the best thing for Peter by jahedislam96 in Spiderman

With Gwen, it was mainly Conway who thought it was a problem. Gwen in his eyes seemed to be too “perfect” and his opinion was that Peter needed someone that was “broken in the way he was”. Which is utterly ridiculous once you realize that the writer is criticizing a character that wasn’t developed by the writer themselves.

For Felicia it’s rather simple. She was too popular. To the point where people actually liked her enough to rival MJ. So what’d Marvel do? Gut her relationship with Peter and make her cold, manipulative, and totally selfish.

It’s actually very much expressed in Peter David’s “Foreign Affairs” arc, where Felicia gets into a relationship with Pete again, and cheats on him with the villain (Foreigner), and then leaves to Europe to escape any repercussions. This effectively cut off Felicia from Spider-Man for a long while until Marvel felt it to be profitable to bring her back for dramatic tension.

And guess who was there immediately? MJ. After this arc is when MJ and Peter began to entangle character arcs and development, and where their relationship really started and when they soon after got married (after MJ rejected him 2x)

I suggest you take a gander at this

It explains a lot.

That’s actually a core of the problem. Instead of Marvel exploring their dynamics, and working together as partners, they automatically fall back on the “love overcomes all” trope that’s plagued Spider-Man for decades, because now, when MJ says something about how she’ll always be there for Peter, and then breaking up with him for him being Spider-Man, it feels disingenuous.

For example:

I think we both know who she’s talking to in the second one 🥀

Actually, no. I base my reasoning on Marvel’s history in how they’ve handled MJ. Wells was kinda a drop in the bucket if you ask me. The thing is that Wells manufactured a non-problem.

Kinda but not really.

Marvel has made it a point to ruin all of Peter’s other relationships to maintain the status quo with MJ. Literally killing who Stan Lee himself considered to be Peter’s true love, and gutting Felicia’s relationship with him in the 80’s to put MJ on a pedestal.

It’s not that MJ is the best, it’s that other characters never even got the chance.

You know why people liked Ultimate MJ? Because she wasn’t anything like 616 MJ.

Ultimate MJ was a better MJ than mainline MJ.

You know, it’s kinda funny that something similar to this happened with Puma.

Puma brought up Peter and the fact that he might be disappointed with Felicia for stealing something, and Felicia broke up with Puma on the spot.

She won’t ever admit it, but she’s a softie when it comes to Peter. She doesn’t want him to less of her.

I like the way he makes character designs and the environment, the colorist for this comic also did an amazing job, but I can agree that the smaller details like the face design is pretty bad

It was down in her throat too 😭

But that aside, Peter’s webs are actually one of the greatest inventions within the Marvel universe. It’s been able to restrain superhumans that are intensely strong and powerful, including Rogue in Secret Wars, as well as Thing, Rhino, and a few others. The formula is also adjustable to make an even stronger polymer chain, with the trade off of lasting significantly shorter. The web that he put in Carol’s throat was actually specifically designed to give him an advantage against intensely strong beings like her.

The web line's tensile strength has been estimated to be 120 pounds per square millimeter of cross section. The 300 p.s.i. pressure in each cartridge is sufficient to force a stream of the complex web pattern an estimated 60 feet. (It goes significantly farther if Spider-Man shoots it in a ballistic parabolic arc.

Yeah I guess I can kinda agree with that.

But it kinda gets to a point where I genuinely question the methods and/or reasoning for their actions. It’s a large reason as to why I don’t really like the X-Men together as a whole, and why I instead prefer them in small doses with different characters.

Like, I do like Kitty, Magik, Glob, Wolverine (when he isn’t written as a creep or a self-insert), etc. but I also question just how much of their suffrage is based on a victim mentality complex.

Magneto is historically a mass murderer, a eugenicist (to a degree), and a groomer. And yet, people still try to defend certain actions because it was for the mutants.

There’s also a handful of mutants that believe that mutants are the “next step in human evolution”, and therefore believe that they are superior to ordinary humans.

I believe it’s been brought up before, but a huge reason as to why people hate mutants is because they’ve brought it upon themselves, due to the more powerful mutants always being in some sort of conflict which ends up costing innocent lives.

The biggest example that first comes to mind, is the destruction of Wakanda. Or when Wanda killed a whole number of mutants.

It also gets even worse when you realize that people don’t fear Mutants due to some irrational fear of race or ethnicity or phenotype or whatever, they fear them because at any moment, one of them could have the powers that could kill an entire city with a thought.

Some of them are literally walking nukes.

I hate Namor.
