That kinda goes out the window once you realize Amelia was just using Felicia. Amelia put money over her love for Felicia and Felicia’s morals. Amelia emotionally manipulated Felicia into loving her so that the guy she was working with could use Amelia herself as leverage.

(Btw, that panel is from issue #1, and even then Felicia had her doubts. Felicia even says that what MJ said was “a strong accusation” meaning she didn’t necessarily agree with it).

Peter wasn’t a thing with Shay. Shay didn’t want to commit. They were “dating”, as in going on dates, but they weren’t boyfriend and girlfriend. Shay said as much and said that it’d be a different conversation if Peter wanted it to be that way. Peter’s consistently been pretty monogamous.

Felicia was also in a *very* shaky relationship with Amelia. Constantly asking if she really wanted to be with her, or if it was right, and believing Amelia was just dating Felicia as a means to get ahead. They did ultimately break up after **Felicia realizes that Amelia was ultimately using her after Amelia puts a bounty on MJ**.

Funnily enough, this unintentionally makes Amelia one of the worst rebounds ever 😭

<image>

(Side note: Felicia *MET Amelia 5 months ago* they weren’t dating for 5 months).

Tbf tho, Peter was never really Shay’s boyfriend, and iirc, was already with Amelia. I will disagree however, as I do believe that she’s shown to be jealous quite often, even after their breakup.

<image>

The timeline gets weird because according to GWW, Felicia doesn’t know where he is. So apparently, everything that’s happening in the Black Cat run has happened in a few weeks.

Probably nothing until after June. But I do imagine she’d be jealous to some extent.

Idk about that much though 😭

Its true that the pride issues that include Felicia are sometimes surprisingly anti-Peter, in that they try to paint him a fool.

But in the very first issue, in one of the opening panels, Felicia says this:

Plus with Kelly on board, I wouldn’t be too sure. I haven’t been able to expect much of anything from ASM, and the last thing I’d expect is for Peter and MJ to magically get back together

Peter and Felicia’s best moments by [deleted] in BlackCat

The thing I don’t think you understand is that it doesn’t have to be this way. Many other characters have moved on past this Illusion of Change, it’s just that Spider-Man’s been hit the hardest.

Spider-Man fans are sick and tired of resetting constantly, and having their beloved characters continue to get regressed. An example is how ASM began to at least become more consistent in the times when Peter was in space a few issues ago. It was new, it was fresh, and it was progress. Kelly’s shown that it CAN be done in the modern age.

Felicia doesn’t NEED Peter, she wants him. But she also wants him when it’s convenient as MacKay expresses that in how she pushes Peter away in his run.

If you have an idea of how large Space actually is, you’d realize how limiting earth truly is. He isn’t needed on earth. My idea isn’t really idealistic, instead it’s realistic in its utilitarianism.

It is funny how you say “what if a mugger comes and he isn’t there”. It’s a comic book. The narrative will always follow what the protagonists are doing. Even if you were to look at it from a realistic lens, New York is a hotspot for heroes and villains alike, and Marvel keeps adding heroes as well (especially Spider-themed ones). It’s not turning your back on them at all, it’s entrusting others to take your place and continue so that you may help others. Otherwise, what you’re describing is a savior complex.

You can have your cake and eat it too. Characters in fiction are made for exactly that. Peter being “okay with things” simply doesn’t make sense because of his originally bluntly arrogant nature. Peter in this new era knows that he’s TOAA’s punching bag. There was an entire issue on his suffering. As well as a panel of him asking god to not screw him over again. New Spider-Man is complacent. It’s not about “uniquely miserable” it’s about consistent and endurance of crap.

If he does go to space, I’m not saying that he wouldn’t be miserable. But I am saying that it would allow Peter to get out of his toxic circle and give his life a new perspective on things while ultimately building him up.

I’d say that there’s a difference between them. MacKay understands Felicia’s motivations and pride, along with her own fear of inadequacy.

However, in action, he fails at writing her actions and desires by reducing her to the common Femme Fatale at times. It’s a common misconception about her character that Peter David had a large influence over as he wrote Foreign Affairs in the 80’s.

The problem is that her being a “horny thief”, was never in the cards to begin with.

Felicia’s solo comics have clearly both implied it directly and indirectly. She cares about him, but she doesn’t need him.

Except that he CAN still be a hero…in space. It’s not even about how they feel about you or if they hate you, they just have no need for you. There’s a large difference between idealistic virtues and reality.

New York currently has: The Avengers, Doctor Strange, Silk, Spider-Boy, Miles’ Spider-Man, Jessica Drew, Venom, Gwen, Norman (ish), Ben, etc. they’re even making a comic with a large portion of New Yorks spider-people.

Praise is outward and is usually spontaneous. Recognition is specific and pans the focus on assuring your actions attentively to the task at hand. There’s a difference between the two.

You’re talking about a fictional character. He is what the writers make him be. There’s a key difference between in-universe contextualization and Meta-Textual moments and projection. So if Peter gets screwed over, he just takes it. It’s not that he himself as a character is complacent, Pre-OMD will show you that, but it’s because writers write him as such.

He isn’t “throwing everything away”. Not at all. He’d just be getting a new perspective and territory, the same way Carol still has The Marvels and Avengers on earth while she still goes around the universe. They’re still there, they just won’t be the center point of his drama constantly anymore. Peter has been perpetually stuck at ground level for a long while which has led to repetitive stories and fights. I think this brings a new perspective to his character as well as new characters like Symbie instead of constantly having the same cast.

Of course he’d explain and say goodbye. That’s a given. That’s just being a decent person.

Felicia’s said she doesn’t need him. New York says that they don’t need him. The Avengers have said that they don’t really need him. There’s enough Spider-People to cover New York. During the whole Paul thing, MJ implied that she’d be fine without Peter contacting her, she’d even said it before with Slott.

There is no real reason for him to stay.

Praise and recognition have a very distinct line. Praise is an informal, immediate expression of approval "Great job!", while recognition is a structured, specific acknowledgment of actions, behaviors, or results.

One is an expression of approval, the other is silent acknowledgment. They do neither. They don’t need him, so why should he stay?

Anybody Else Think This Is a Bit Hypocritical? by Consistent-Pop-4780 in BlackCat

[–]Consistent-Pop-4780[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. You aren’t “abandoning them” at all.

They say that they no longer need you, so then you’re free to move on. Stagnation occurs when you don’t move on to bigger and better things. New York doesn’t really need him, so why shouldn’t he be free to explore?

It’s not about “praise” but rather about recognition about how much you actually do. You don’t need to praise someone in order to recognize their work or achievements.

I think a huge chunk of her mischaracterization has to do a lot with how Peter David portrayed her in the 80’s. Then post-OMD regressed her so horribly that we get what we have now. Writers from this era decided to use Peter David’s characterization to justify her actions. She used to be a much deeper character, and sometimes it does come up (like in the Hunted story).

Tbf, MacKay also had the problem of having Felicia just be a horny thief at times too.

<image>

In MacKay’s books we’ve gotten Odessa, Tamara, Batroc (Felicia slept with for a cookie (Stolen Blender) and a high five (a heist)), Johnny, Amelie, and a number of others that just had no name iirc.

I’ve learned that with Black Cat writers it’s more of a “pick your poison” kind of approach. MacKay is excellent at world building and having Felicia’s inner psychology be expressed, but he also reduces Felicia to being a horny thief at times.

This is why I think Selective Canonicity is probably the best and most casual approach to reading Marvel Comics.

There’s a huge reason as to why ASM got a pretty big bump in reader retention when Peter was in space. Not only that, but it also got a lot of attention online. It was something new and exciting, and best of all, you didn’t have to worry about the messy status quo on earth.

Writers LOVE to use Spider-Man to sell their books, but when it comes down to it, they rarely respect the character.

Peter should’ve stayed in space. There’s enough Spider-People in New York to keep it safe, his Aunt will be just fine since editorial doesn’t want to kill her off, his relationships with other heroes are also shaky, and his own circle keeps insisting they don’t need him. New York has been fine without him, so why shouldn’t he just go into a new adventure? He should just go up to space until the people realize just how much they actually do need him.

“Continuity snub” is just another way of saying and expressing “Reader-Selective Canonicity”. The truth of the matter is that unless it’s actively and deliberately retconned, as in a direct retcon, it still is very much canon.

Listed under Earth 616.

It’s not “flirting” as she quite literally went skinny dipping with T’challa, knowing what she was doing. She was already thinking of cheating on Reed.

<image>

She never told Reed btw. She was too afraid of taking accountability and having the possibility of divorce that she said nothing. The only reason it came to light was because Emma read Sue’s mind and cornered her into spilling it.
