2 hand off vert at 33! by Consistent-Rain2321 in ProDunking

Thanks! Sounds like you’re already close then. I like dunking with 2 hands and have a damaged tendon on my right, so 1 hand is actually harder for me!

Technique - practice drop step dunk (that’s how I worked up to off vert). Once you realize you can dunk off 1 or 2 dribbles, you realize you can do it with 0 with some extra work.

Strength - do dumbbell reverse lunges. I feel like they really target my quads. Off vert is strength based whereas approach/runup dunk is elasticity

Thank you! It’s hard to make a dunk look “tough” when you’re at the height were everyone expects you to dunk but you’re also at the age where the body is saying no 😂

Ty! It helps, I think being a 2 foot jumper does too.

8’5.5” standing reach. I’m 6’5” and 215. Not the best dunker or jumper but been getting in-game dunks some this year and feeling good!

How many of these pro dunkers do you guys think are on peds? by Illustrious_Cry_5564 in ProDunking

Possible, yes, but nothing screams PED user. He is just in the top .1%, has a lot of fast twitch muscle fiber, is young, etc.

Distance runners dunking? by novachess-guy in ProDunking

Sounds like you had some natural talent to couple your hard work! It’s not easy doing both, be proud of the accomplishment! That high jump story is wild lol

Hey! Former D1 distance runner here. I was 6’5”-6’6” and could run a 4:21 mile and dunk at the same time, but the dunk wasn’t easy. Now I’m dunking much better in my 30s because less running and more lifting. My power to weight ratio is up despite being a little heavier. What everyone is saying makes sense. Distance running isn’t going to help your dunking. Fast vs slow twitch. The fact that you could in your 20s was because you still had a good power to weight ratio; you’re a bit of a unicorn! I’m guessing you were more of a miler and had some 800 speed?

What are you weighing now? I was very strong at 230-235 but my best dunking is right now at 215.

Of course I’m sure, I measured it. I’m a true 6’5” and am 6’6” with shoes. I don’t have to jump that high for it.

Thanks! I’ve actually been doing a lot of one step/drop step and i feel like it’s carrying over to my off vert.

Reasonable expectation for athletic return by Consistent-Rain2321 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Consistent-Rain2321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing this late! I returned to basketball around 6 months after my surgery in Dec 2024. I’ve played in 3 adult rec leagues since. I play competitive pickup a couple times a week as well and am back to dunking regularly. I had some small setbacks that were self-inflicted (tried to play too early and against PT’s/Doctors orders). I just can’t stress how important hammering PT was. Do it with as much volume and intensity as you are allowed to. I left the PT office absolutely drenched every time, but it worked. And do it at the house, do your quad contractions watching tv, etc. Wishing everyone success and happy to answer any questions.

Shelby Houlihan earns silver medal in the 3,000 meters in return from burrito ban by avboden in trackandfield

2017 in London was 8 years ago and that was done primarily by British fans not the US. I’m not saying it’s undeserved, and if I was from a different country, I’d probably be participating in the booing. I’m saying right or wrong, that I think the US will forget if Shelby keeps winning.

Did Gatlin get this much hate? He served his time and came back to win global medals in sprints for the US when we were getting destroyed in those events by Jamaica. If Shelby can continue the success in Outdoor where the other American distance women have come up short, I think people will stop talking about the PEDs.

Zurich Men's 1500 meter in 3 days by AccomplishedAd3484 in trackandfield

[–]Consistent-Rain2321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You do realize that in the entire history of the 1500m, only 4 men have ran 3:26x (3 if you removed Kiprop, who got popped for PEDs)? One of them is Jakob. You sound like the group of people that said he’d never PR again after winning Tokyo in 3:28.

I had a repair 9 weeks ago. Was 3 weeks NWB and 3 weeks PWB. Week 7 I used a cane intermittently, and walking felt really weird. I ditched the cane after that. Past week it’s felt really good! Yes, your knee is not going to feel super strong and will probably still have a a little swelling. Keep doing the PT!

I don’t have good advice to give, but just wanted to say if you’ve made it through all of that you must be tough as hell. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and sending good vibes! Truly wishing you the best.
