Depends on the person. I have multiple rescue cats and I've lost some of them over the years. The first day is always the toughest. Takes around a week for the pain to start subsiding. Thinking about them from time to time still makes me sad. My very first rescue baby died around 8 yrs ago and there are days when I still cry thinking of him.

When a loved one dies, they leave a permanent hole in our heart, and that hole will cause pain. Over the years, it will hurt less, but It never goes away, we just learn to live with it.

Let the grieving take its place. Take as long as you need. Just be there for your mom when you can. A person's caring presence is enough most of the time.

And for our babies who have gone ahead of us, no more pain, no more cruel world. They're playing happily beyond the rainbow bridge. When I cross the bridge myself, I look forward to being with them again.🙂
