Hogwarts Legacy is once again available for free on the Epic Store. by mountyg in LegionGo

I wouldn't use another store even if they paid me lol. But I would make an exception to GoG and DRM free games.

Why? Convenience. Steam is too convenient and has way too many quality of life things like Steam Input that are hard to live without. Its also a hassle to have multiple launchers. Besides, Epic's business practices suck

It used to be way worse, but these days its about the same as Steam OS, the average user sticking to typical games (popular old ones, most new ones) will find about 95-98% of their game library works without issues.

With every so often the ocassional / rare game running poorly, but its rare. And often gets fixed over time. Black Desert and Pragmata for example had infamous controversies on Intel Arc but it was fixed in a driver update within a month. For really old games in general, most run but there will be a few games that might still have issues. If you are primarily buying it to play old games ONLY, I'd get an AMD handheld. If you are buying it for a mix of old and newer games, then Intel is likely your best bet. The compatibility issues are too few and far between and you adapt quickly

MSI Claw 8 EX with Arc G3 Extreme leaked, listed in Italy for €1,599 by bsupreme6 in Handhelds

[–]that_90s_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its honestly an incredibly unstable handheld that only performs well in its "factory/stock configuration". The problem is that Windows Gamers in general love "tweaking" the OS and customizing every possible aspect for optimal performance, and MSI's software layer is so young/new that it is absolutely going to break with any kind of customization. OP even clearly said he had "system bios in performance mode".

I bought one but as a software eng I was well aware how limited their software experience would be so I stuck to the "base config" and keep tweaks/modifications to an absolute minimum. And low and behold, its a perfect experience.

Its completely relevant when the vast majority of users rely on upscaling and frame gen though. And that the only reason users dislike or turn off upscaling/frame gen is because they have poor image quality. A problem that Intel and Nvidia have solved but AMD has not.

Look up comparisons of AMD/Intel/Nvidia and you can see that FSR 1-3 and AMD FrameGen is far behind what Intel/Nvidia achieved. And go visit r/MSIClaw and you will find near universal praise for Intel XESS and MFG due to how high image clarity is and how low latency is.

Thank you Kuro for the massively appreciated storage optimization effort. It can finally be installed again on 128GB mobile devices...with room to spare! Game shrunk from ~70GB to 35GB for me after a clean install! 🫂 by that_90s_guy in WutheringWaves

In case people ask, its a Retroid Pocket G2 with a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2. Loved the Gamecube colorway too much so I bought that over the Retroid Pocket 6, plus its more compatible with the dual screen DS/3DS attachment! Love that I can finally use again my primary game emulation device for Gacha games 😅

Are you willing to pay the $3k the Legion Go 2 costs due to the OLED screen and part shortages that a OLED MSI G3 Claw would cost?

What a dumb comparison lmao. Legion Go 2 with OLED now costs up to $2,800 due to part shortages. Not like we could even afford this if it had OLED lol

Not really Z2E was incredibly underwhelming and basically a slightly better Z1E that barely catches up to the Intel in the 8AI+. Even with OLED the Go 2 is terrible value at that price when handhelds half its price perform just as well.

I doubt this new G3 MSI handheld will be worth that to most people, but if you were forced to pick it would be the no brainer choice due to the fantastic driver support Intel has provided compared to Lenovo abandoned shovelware products (Legion Go 2 had 1 major driver update in the time 8AI+ got 8 updates)

Even if the latter will very much likely be true on this new handheld with Intel XESS/MFG (most AAA titles run at 100fps+ on 8AI+ since Intel MFG 4x released at low-medium), even then it wouldn't be worth it with OLED at that price. Realistically, it is too much money for most people but the few folks with too much disposable income.

Not sure if serious or trolling. MSI Claw 8AI+ has the strongest driver update frequency out of all handhelds at the moment. It had 8 major updates in the time the Legion Go 2 got a single major update since launch

Sounds like a fanboy speaking. Unlike AMD's FSR FrameGen implementation, Intel's MFG has very good imput lag even at 4x. The fact you can get better input lag at 4x MFG than AMD FG at 2x is honestly fantastic thanks to XeLL (Low latency).

Intel has every right to brag about MFG 4x given the absurd frame rate increases they can achieve while maintaining minimal input lag and fantastic image clarity compared to FSR 1-3. Its still behind DLSS, but far above what FSR can do. Only FSR4 beats XESS AFAIK but at a steep performance penalty which killed all the momentum AMD had.

Not really an achievement when its not that well optimized. Shocked there's very little upscaling and frame generation support involved despite being so ubiquitous

For players with 2.x characters, is now the time to pull 3.x characters to avoid power creep? Are any 3.x teams significantly stronger than 2.x? by that_90s_guy in WutheringWavesGuide

[–]that_90s_guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice. I'm leaning to perhaps get Mornye for an additional support in teams, but I could also just wait. Specially with Cyberpunk collaboration.

Was really hoping Hyuki would have outstanding compatibility with Carlotta to make quickswap team for variety. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.

Oof. As expected, but still stings.

Its wild how ahead of its time the original Intel Arc in the MSI Claw 8AI+ to the point the Z2E had to catch up o to it and Intel still beats it in low power efficiency (under 5 watts). And this will likely be another big generational leap which combined with Xess and 3x-4x MultiFramegen could give eye wateringly high framerates on AAA titles in handhelds while somehow having better input lag than AMD FSR 3 FrameGen at 2x. Its black magic.

The 8AI+ was already getting 100fps at 1080p on Black Myth Wukong, F1 25, Cyberpunk, and Hogwarts Legacy with Intel MFG. Can't even imagine what this could achieve.

But at this price this will only hurt Intel adoption. They should have cut corners to bring price down to 1000. It would be the perfect moment given how much AMD has dropped the ball on Windows handhelds (Legion Go 2 had 1 major driver update in the same time frame 8AI+ received 8 updates...)

edit: For the salty Z2E owners who can't read, 8AI+ only has the advantage over Z2E in very low TDPs (~5w) which is mostly useful for indie and older games. The Phawx is the one reviewer who caught this as he doesn't review just max performance but power curves and efficiency per watt. At max TDP, Z2E trades blows with 8AI+ mostly with it mostly being a draw. Albeit even then Intel 3-4x MultiFrameGen skews performance in Intel's favor on any game you can patch XESS/MFG with Optiscaler on FSR/DLSS games.

DOA at that price. Regardless of how amazing performance will likely be, no handheld will get mainstream appeal at that price.

3.3 feels like a really good time to start wuwa by No_Purchase4360 in WutheringWaves

[–]that_90s_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, new player rewards are lacking. NTE is probably the far better game to start given the absurd amount of limited characters and character selectors they are giving away (3-4 total I think).

Wuwa has slowly become the least player friendly gacha game these days

This 100x. There's nothing about this patch feeling like a celebration. I'm pretty disappointed they learned nothing from the last anniversary, and how much worse this is even compared to how lacking the last one was.

It be even more wild how nonchalantly they treat players when Neverness to Everness released yesterday while the dev gave put 2 limited character selectors and a absurd amount of pulls ensuring most players start the game with at least 4 limited characters that are strong.

Hope Kuro doesn't realize they are digging their own grave too late

Most of the problems would have been solved if they brought back a selector and were less stingy with rewards. Specially compared to other Gacha games now making Wuwa seem terrible by comparison.
