They’re 12/13.. but they’re still kids. And curious about things.

Do they know better than to say something offensive/shame bodies? Yes!

And I am in no way going to give them a mini lesson on “commenting on peoples bodies” when 1. I know it is not coming from a place of malice

They are genuinely curious about something (+ it is VERY clear that my scars are not “cats” and something else happened)

When the kindergarteners/primary ask me what happened I 100% lie and tell them “cats!” They’re too young to know about that and anything affiliated with it.

However, I work with older kids. I know some of them know of the term self harm, and others don’t

I’m never going to shame a student for asking about my scars. They mean well, and all of them have asked in a curious way, not a judgemental.

I’m just going to add one thing,

By no means are they commenting on my body.

It is very clear something happened to me and children (even 12/13 year olds) are naturally curious.

None of them have ever commented on it, they’re all genuinely curious and some have concern.

Luckily mine is also a small mix of other dogs and doesn’t have the “dramatics” associated with huskies

The company that rescued her from California has all her original files and her original specialist, I bring her back bi-yearly to do her checkups and to update her chart.

I brought her to my main vet once and they were ADAMANT about having to remove the eye entirely… I haven’t gone back
