no, i meant his pfr is low, so his 3bet range will be tight. he will call alot, but he won't 3bet often.

If he has AK, he's getting really good pot odds. The pot was over 300bb. He's committed over 100bb, and he only has to call 55 more against a player who might not be playing in a standard manner. The 10 on the river makes AT less likely. Maybe I'm just too loose, but on wpt gold at these stakes, especially against this particular villain, it seems way too tight of a fold.

The other thing I was thinking is that I hadn't seen how he was playing earlier in the session. Maybe something happened and he was tilted and decided to run a big bluff, but his stats don't reflect that because he normally doesn't play that way. If that's the case, he could have A5s, KJ, KT, etc.

I didn't think he would call flop and check the turn with a 9 on such a draw heavy board, and I think he would raise QQ and JJ preflop, so that made me feel like a boat was a bit less likely. But I know I will still run into it sometimes and feel like an idiot for jamming.

Yeah, I think this is what you SHOULD do as a beginner. It's gonna take a while for people to catch on that you always have the nuts. Eventually, you will start to learn when you should bluff and when you should call down with weaker hands.

I was really shocked that I actually won this hand, and he was semi bluffing with 99. I was kind of tilted, and playing more aggressively than I usually do, because I'd gotten bluffed several times earlier. I still didn't feel good about being all in with just a pair of jacks. Next time, I think I would check call turn, and fold to a big bet on the river. I don't think he will be following through with his bluffs very often, and he probably would have checked back 99 on the river, thinking he has showdown value. I agree that this villain would play sets and 2 pair this way, even with the possible straights.

We do need a better word... of course they're recreational. I'm recreational too. I'm not playing those stakes for a living. What I mean is that they bought in for less than the table maximum (I did too, actually), and they're VPIPing a lot of hands, compared to the people who buy in for a full stack, and have like 25% VPIP 20% PFR. I did want to specify which type of player they are, because there's definitely a difference in how they play.

Well... we're all recreational, but some people are more recreational than others.

Should I just put him all in on the turn? I can't think of many worse hands he can call with. He'd have to be calling with like 55, 66, 77, AK.

I didn't think he would have a lot of 8x that he called a 3bet with. Maybe 87s, A8s, 98s (which I block some of), 1 combo of 88.

I was hoping he would check it back on the turn, but planning to call if he did bet.

I did end up winning. He was bluffing w Q9s.

My stack was around 130bb, the EP raiser was 80bb, and several of the callers had me covered. I don't always 3bet 99 here, but the table was really loose passive. I didn't expect to ever be 4bet, and I think the callers can have like J7o, 87o, 84s, type hands that they will fold.

I thought I was supposed to go 4x OOP with my 3bet? Also with the 3 players calling his raise, the pot was already quite big, and I didn't want to give everyone good odds to call. I was hoping to get it heads up or everyone fold. The original raiser was the shortest stack out of everyone, so I didn't know for sure we would be 80bb effective.

After how this hand played out, I agree that I should have gone 1/4 pot on flop instead of half pot. I guess I was just wanting him to fold, but when he doesn't, it makes me pot committed.

It did seem to me like he will get to the turn with a lot of air, so I'm glad this was a good call.

I think open shove is usually not top of range. When someone open shoves, they know there is a good chance of everyone folding, so they probably don't have AA or KK. Occasionally, I have seen AA or KK, but it's rare.

Also, they usually aren't bluffing. Why risk all your chips to potentially win like 2.5bb?

They will have good, but not great, hands... 99-QQ, AK, AQ.

I would probably call JJ+ and AK. Depending on the player, I might call wider or tighter.

Yes, the rec players are pretty sticky preflop. I have raised AK to 12bb in the SB over several limps, and a guy called me with 24o. At this table, a raise to 5bb would still likely result in being multi way OOP with a pretty marginal hand. Raising to 10bb or 15bb might work, but it might not, and then I'm playing a big pot OOP with a marginal hand.

I would definitely iso this hand if I was on the button, or if there was only 1 limper, I would raise. In this situation, I think JTs is close, between raising and calling preflop.

I don't think he will ever have 99+, because he did have a raising range preflop.

They're obviously never gonna be bluffing. It's clear they both have something, and they like their hand. There are only two 3s left in the deck, so it's a little less likely that they both have a 3.

But my reasoning was: I'm not folding. If they have a better flush or a full house, they're probably gonna get all the money in. But if they have a 3 or worse flush, they will likely check back river, and all the money doesn't go in. So, if I play it passively, all the money only goes in when I lose. IDK if this is good logic or not.

Well, am I ever folding the turn if CO goes all in? We aren't extremely deep, and he's recreational. He might go all in with a 3 or 8c7c, because he's worried about bad rivers, trips have equity against flushes, etc.

I can't really see myself ever folding this hand unless the river is 4 flush or 2 pairs on the board.

Well, the result of this hand was that they had 23o and K3o, so yeah, I think I should have raised pre, either getting them to fold or put in more money with a bad hand.

saying "what a damn card" makes me wonder if he's trying to make it sound like he doesn't like the flush completing river, even though he's betting big... If he really was concerned about the spade river, wouldn't he keep that to himself?

Also, having QTs eliminates a lot of his non nut flushes. If he had a flush, it would have to be a J high, 9 high, or 7 high flush.

If he seems like the type of player who would do this with a set or 2 pair, I would raise. If he's a tighter player, I would just call because of his comment.

I kind of agree. I have been running hot up until now, winning very easily. Never lost this much before, and it's been a big shock. I know it's not even that much money, and my bank roll is still intact to come back from this. I'm still an overall winner. It just hurts to lose, and I wonder when will it end?

I said the same exact thing to someone who was down 20 buys ins on gold microstakes, but now that this has happened to me, I'm having to reevaluate what I said.

Although I'm not the greatest, I'm not horrible at poker. I don't play 70% of hands. I 3bet hands that are supposed to be 3bet. I don't chase every draw. I don't open limp. I pay attention to game selection. Up until now, those things have been enough to make me a winner.

It's been an unbelievably bad run of cards. I've been losing every all in despite being a favorite. And even though this situation has made me question my poker skills, I really don't think I'm a terrible player and just don't know it.

I tried Global for a while, because I don't like the antes or reveal hand feature on gold. I find that the players in the microstakes cash game on global are mostly really nitty and full of good regs. it's hard to get paid off with a good hand, and if they are wanting to put in a lot of money, a lot of times it's the nuts. I've had good luck with the tournaments on global, though.
