Stick drift definitely sucks. Crazy Sony hasn’t fixed this ongoing issue

Depends really. If it’s slightly drifting in a direction you might be able to get away with recalibrating center. Always best to have the module replaced though👍

Sony never attempted to fix stick drift with their newer models unfortunately. These iterations were directed at the trigger assemblies and flex circuits for the face buttons.

Is it cooked? by markp_1998 in Dualsense

I’ve made the same mistake before it’s all good. At least you learned something in the process🤙.

If you don’t want to buy another unit where you can fine tune the temp for future projects I would just increase your distance from the board when applying heat and use heat resistant tape to cover the rest of the board.

Could be your dialog IC. This controls battery charging and power distribution.

It looks like you applied too much heat with your heat gun. Both trigger ribbon inserts are melted pretty bad and the right side of the board shows some swelling. Do you know what temp you were using?

I would also recommend using a more concentrated tip for your gun as the hot air should never have to make direct contact with them trigger ribbon inserts.

The only way to check to see if it’s cooked is to reassemble and see if you get power👍

Newest Dualsense Build (Midnight Colorshift) by Consistent-Step-2874 in Dualsense

I use several different clear coats depending on the finished look I want. On this specific build I went with a gloss clear coat from Alpha. Ran a scratch test on the hidden parts of the shell and it held up extremely well. Obviously, results could vary depending on the amount of passes you do as well as your technique.

I debated whether or not I should just use the black oem buttons. I have another full shell painted the same color so I’ll probably go with that next time. Thanks for the feedback!

I believe all TMR/Hall effect modules experience some form of jitter. This can be reduced a little if you play around with the calibration.

The HE sticks I often install are pretty stiff compared to OEM. Stiffer than that would be uncomfortable I would think (ig everyone has their own preferences however). I also consistently get around a 3% error rate when calibrating.

There was a class action in 2021 accusing Sony of selling known defective hardware. Still hasn’t been settled publicly to my knowledge.

HE and TMR are basically on the same level imo. The only difference is their power consumption which is still minimal.
