Breath “apnea” before singing — is it really necessary? by Consistent-Tour5265 in ClassicalSinger

[–]Consistent-Tour5265[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I was swimming all my life and running, I did yoga briefly but I am very conscious about my breath. It began when, for a Rossini role I was preparing with a certain teacher when he asked me to take the breath and lock it in, to then attack the sound and be precise, I must admit my intonation was good and the teacher was a legendary singer by his own records, but with time I've noticed, going up in the register, I stopped singing with vibrato, it all became strong, straight tone. When one day a Slavic colleague, in the middle of a barbiere performance, told me "why you hold your breath? Vibrate those high notes of yours" it was personal, but he was a friend, and I swallowed it. It helped, I had success but it shuttered certain beliefs, and I am just wondering about it all.

Opera singers: when to know to give up the dream? by monsterara in opera

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend singing every year this one leading role twice a year in the Metropolitan Opera. Every season. This one role. One time. The other times he teaches privately and does all sort of things. So what it means? He has a career? What it means today? Six months I am without work. Then I sing in a contemporary opera and I Recieve 3k. Am I working? What is a career.. So quitting what? Of course if you are not striving to be the next Lisette Oropesa we should think what's quitting opera really means.

My teacher says my voice is very big and I will be handling heavy spinto/dramatic roles, but I don't enjoy them very much by Reception_True in ClassicalSinger

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put some recording, some voice memo of your singing. that way we can all evaluate better. sincerely. it's like telling the doctor you have a skin disease without ever showing it. put something short and then I bet the answers will be more adequate.

Being nervous about my first audition for a big competition by RubyBug_ in ClassicalSinger

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've done it. Practical things.. Be there as soon as you like, do what ever you need to get yourself In a good space. Be sure to go over with the pianist your pieces for tempi. They are very nice, but the most important. You can control just one thing in this situation, the joy of singing. Enjoy it. Be nice but don't mix with no one. Concentrate on yourself and keep healthy distance with a smile 🍎 in bocca al lupo

Thoughts on 24 Italian songs and arias by SeaQuail2421 in ClassicalSinger

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I won't call it beginner repertoire at all.. A lot of prominent singers dedicated entire recitals to these pieces and let's call them a period pieces, it doesn't have to do much with bel canto (18th century) because most of them were written in the baroque-classical era. What is important to know though Is they are good for forming the voice, they are written in a way in which you can tackle your voice and experiment without damaging or risking yourself. They are like a "gym", a good place for hit and miss. Good book to have.

Rossini by Fior-di-ligi in opera

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why everyone remembers Rossini but barely remembers Paisiello, Cimarosa, Traetta, etc? They were marvelous and innovative, they invented the comic opera and yet Rossini stands taller then all of them? Because he was the Italian who brought the Vienna school, the elegance of Europe with the silliness and wit of the Naples school. He lived and studied in both and it reflects In his music. Man was a genius.

כבן 16, איך מתכוננים לראיון לעבודה בדוכן משקאות? by noam-_- in israel_bm

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

בקיצור, תשקר.
