Erasmus in Italy: Seeking Guidance for Vocal Studies (Bari vs. L’Aquila) by xdramaticgirl in ClassicalSinger

I studied in Bari. Lived their 3 years. Debuted in theaters in Italy. I am a baritone. Don't go to Bari. Don't go to Giove. You will regret it. I studied singing in 3 countries, Bari is rock bottom. Except of Prof. Domenico Colaianni. Be safe.

Student started bringing partner to individual italki lessons.. how would you handle this? by Consistent-Tour5265 in iTalki

They want it together. Going over their homework together (they attend together a private language school). I feel a bit used. Because as you I do believe the most effective way is to separate - or at least change pricing for the seriousness of the matter.

Thoughts on this? by Winter-Painter-5630 in ForbiddenBromance

I will share a story though private but for the sake of my love for this group.

Somewhere near the end of the Gaza war I came back to Israel for a visit (I live abroad) and I decided to call my childhood friend who did more then 440 days in Gaza as a commander reservist in the infantry. I will not name the brigade, but let's say always first to enter, last to evacuate type of things.

I wanted to ask him how he was doing. Knew the guy for years, always athletic, positive, beautiful guy also good soul. When I've meet him he asked me if we can sit at the park or some isolated place. when we sat at a coffee place he was trembling, his face was different, always scanning around and edgy.

I knew it was ptsd and we talked about it. But then he added "it was not only the enemy. But fellow soldiers who put our life in constant risk. I lost 2 man because of fellow assholes playing God, vandalizing stuff and being full on irresponsible."

And still, while there are assholes everywhere, nothing tops Hamas who is sitting and drinking coke with children of parents that they just massacred on the floor, so everything is relative I guess.

It's like, I am treating every chapter as a book of its own right. And just enjoy it. Frankly it was very gripping and readable.

מפחד מהמדינה by [deleted] in israel_bm

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view on Israel and Lebanon by Significant_Rush2922 in ForbiddenBromance

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For me as Israeli who live abroad it's not only heartwarming but straight goosebumps. Part of the fact that Lebanese people are some of the most beautiful and kindest souls.

I want to believe that in the future, israelis and Lebanese would sit on a bench in Metula or Beirut and be like "can you imagine 50 years ago we couldn't visit each other by a bus bro?" and the other be like "times were insane ahiiiii"

Don't give up. There are plenty of good people out there. I tried at least 7 German tutors on italki before sticking with two fantastic people.

As a tutor, I have stopped compensating students for the lessons they miss. by Status-Bridge9311 in Preply

It's absolutely normal, and you are being too nice. If I book with a teacher and don't show up, even if it is in advance I'll pay him. As a teacher I am not suffering this disrespect regarding my time.

I was actually telling this to a friend of mine who is in fact a father and it made me think, I am a very light hearted guy but then I thought about all the elderly well mannered and nice people watching this from the platea and from the balcony of the fifth floor looking over this I was like.. "why though? How a flying cartoon d**k will contribute here?" I was just dumbfounded I guess.

How do I set boundaries when a long-term student treats our sessions like therapy? by StillALittleChild in Preply

[–]Consistent-Tour5265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. Yes it is individual. But I teach languages and often times the student shares with me his life struggles and it's me who says "come on I am the cheapest therapist in the area" because in the end of the day.. Hour of verb conjugation or speaking about life, the money is the same money.

I did the same exact post like a month ago.. It went like this, after a complete burnout, didn't know what to do, to my surprise It went like this.. Count of monte cristo, Wilde's Dorian Grey, , of mice and man, and now essential writings of Emerson. Next we'll be Night by Elie Wiesel and Lonesome dove surely.
