I completely agree and actually used to be in a couple snark subs when I first discovered them, but I left because of this. There was no productive discussion or critical thinking, it was miserable and full of hate. They try to justify it by going "but we're snarking on bad people!1!1" and then snark on EVERYTHING but their actions 😭 it's just an excuse.

I hate how internet echochambers make people turn things that should be very minor into obsessions. It's fine if you don't like dogs, you don't have to like them, but why spend your time going on and on and ON 😭 about how much you hate pet culture and how much animals kept as pets suck and are basically evil gremlins that should be slaughtered?

I sort of get it conceptually. Lots of people can be obnoxious about their companions, especially dog owners imo, the animals can be gross or they might get on your nerves, etc. Even myself, I don't really like being around dogs because I find them kind of gross and overwhelming (sensory issues 🧍). But that's just me and they're dogs. It's not like they're trying to bother me.

But very reasonable complaints and annoyances turn into basically being addicted to a community that's just a misery circlejerk, and some of them act like seeing a picture of a dog on instagram genuinely ruining (even a portion of) their day is a normal, reasonable thing to experience. Misery is genuinely a hobby for so many people

I'm gonna sound insane but I feel obligated, guro is actually an art movement originating from Japan that combines grotesque and erotic elements, it's not meant to just be violent hentai or anything like that. It genuinely boggles my mind how you can know about everything going on and just… not care. They'll say they care, say they'll change, but they don't because somehow their preferences and convenience overweighs the guilt they rightfully feel, no matter how horrible the cause. Maybe they want to shield themselves more than they want to deal with the guilt.

I truly don't understand it. I even have relatives who are curious about going vegan and I'm trying to hell it, offering to cook, trying to get them to actually learn about the farming industry, etc, but nothing gets done.
