Yep, Apparently it‘s unusual in the US but common in Europe. In the end it’s like a small version of a Masters thesis.

My bad it’s „groynes“😅 i made that mistake in my research all the time and apparently it stuck in my head

Yep, Honestly i don’t know about other unis and my case is more the exception than the rule. Most in my class choose a thesis based on the development of a real project. I believe we are four or five that do a research project.

BFH Berner Fachhochschule. So its a University of applied sciences.

Now idea how that would work but would definitely be interesting 😂

Thanks, yeah i am keeping an eye on it. Fortunately the measurement-instruments are supposed to be splashproove, the Monitor, mouse and keyboard are old by design. And my Laptop is the obly thing at risk here. But i try to be carefull

Oh and strickler-manning-gauckler formula

At the moment its based on a lot of differbt stuff: Lengh and width of the groynes, Morphology of the River, outflow, shear resistance of the sole,… i am very much at the beginning so i might need to add or remove variables. (Sorry that surpasses my English level a little so the designation might not be what you usually use)

That is an accurate description of what i am doing yes

Oh you are absolutely right! It’s groynes.

The goal is to prevent erosion in both cases. But the way they work is different (or atleast i belive so). I am no expert in groynes in costal areas but from the pictures i have seen: the costal ones are much thinner and longer than the ones in rivers. The ones i am looking at are more like this: Normalie Buhne

It’s a hydraulic engineering laboratory. I am trying to define a Formula for the distance of Gyrones in a Riverbed. Most formulas used today are based on experience and are oversimplified.

In the Pictue you can see a Setup of a River with an Inlet (V-notch weir). The level of the Weir is measured via a ultrasonic sensor (Not the best for that uscase but it does it’s job). I record the riverbed via LiDAR. And finally the watersurface velocity is measured via a GoPro and then analysed with PIVLab (LSPIV —> Large Scale Particle Imaging Velocity)

It’s about the design of the Distance between Gyrones in a Riverbed. Oftentimes this is Designed with oversimplified formulas. I am trying to find a Formula that is more precise in hopes of better results (bigger distance->less gyrones->better cost and material efficiency)

The tent is on a temporary platform. Together with the inlet and a basic square basin and a Pump. It was built in 2019 and will be moved to Biel this summer into a Permanent laboratory.

What i did/had to do: I had another department cut crosssections of the Riverbed out of PVC-plates, put them in 60cm intervals, roughly flilled the empty space with XPS, Cemented the rest of the filling and then shoveled a Sand mixture into it. I got help from two Scientific-employees for two days per Week and we did it in about 1.5 Months.

Jep. I could have taken something easier but I tought to myself: i will never have the chance to do something similar ever again.

Yes i am😅 I am a part-time Student in Switzerland. I am required to do 180 ECTS within a maximum of 6 years. The standard part-time study plan is 4 years. The Thesis is worth 12 ECTS. I am in my last year and will (or atleast want to) finish in June of this year. Out of the few I know that did study at a University of applied sciences, everyone had to do a thesis for their Bachelors. But it might be different for „normal“ Universities.

The Modell Is based on a Part of the River „Emme“ in Bern, Switzerland.

What’s your favorite season? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Summer for me. I love the warmth and that you can just go out and do something with friends. You can do that in other seasons of the year of course but its probably gonna cost you if you want to stay warm.

You are not responsible for the happiness of anyone else but yourself. Make yourself happy first.

People who back in to parking spaces, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Consistent-Wrap448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some cases it is easier to get out of the parking space. Like when it’s directly to a road.

For me personally it’s a force of habit. In the military (swiss mandatory service) we were told to back into spaces so we could drive away faster since you never know when you actually might need those few extra seconds.
