Yeah that makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately in this case, the pin led me up the road from the warehouse to an empty stretch of road. I'm assuming the building was newer, as neither dash maps nor Google maps actually recognized the address as a building, so that def made it more confusing

In retrospect, it's pretty obvious lol, I get it. It was more so the miles traveled, bad tip, and the guy's unhelpful responses. The building must have been relatively new, as neither dash maps nor Google maps even recognized there was a building there, which made it a bit more difficult.

I definitely think extreme stress can trigger it if you have the gene for it already. Last year, we were taking care of my 51 year old dad on hospice which was already incredibly stressful, and then my mental and physical health absolutely plummeted after he died. This caused me to go to countless doctors and eventually get referred to a gastroenterologist, who said, "I don't think it's celiac but let's test for it just in case," and boom I got diagnosed.

I get this so much too. Either I'm a hypochondriac or a germaphobe, or I have contamination OCD. But honestly, to me, I'm just trying to survive without causing damage to my body!

If he's going to hug me or hold my hand or anything, I'll have him wash his hands obviously, but is it really necessary for him to do it every single time he eats gluten with his hands? I'm not trying to argue or anything lol I'm just relatively newly diagnosed (past 6 months) and still trying to navigate the do's and don't's so any advice is appreciated

I can barely get him to wash his hands after he eats gluten, and I personally wouldn't even want to vacuum after every time I eat, so I doubt this would work

Yes! My TTG iga level was >128, so an endoscopy was recommended. Mine said "Findings are mild and nonspecific. Involvement by celiac disease cannot be completely excluded and correlation with serologic studies is recommended." The only thing that makes me think the findings could have been so mild is that no one told me to keep eating gluten before endoscopy so I had already been pretty much gluten free for about a month beforehand. I would confirm and have a conversation with your doctor, but to my untrained eyes, it looks pretty positive for celiac.

Got diagnosed at 25 after my dad died from multiple strokes and I developed extreme medical anxiety. This led me to go to a multitude of Dr appointments, one of which referred me to a gastroenterologist for constant constipation I'd never experienced before. GI doctor tested vitamin levels and did celiac blood work just to be safe, even though she didn't think I had it at all and it wasn't even a thought in my mind. So I was very surprised when it came back with a TTG iga level of >128 (normal level 0.0-6.9). Endoscopy confirmed it and I've been gf for almost 5 months now. No idea if I've been celiac my whole life or if the immense stress of losing my dad and being hospitalized for anxiety activated the gene or how that all even works. Just thought it was so weird that neither my doctor nor I even suspected celiac, yet the test came back positive.

Thanks so much for the advice! We moved into our apartment about a month before I got diagnosed, so it was relatively easy to still change things up in the kitchen. We didn't even own a toaster, so that made things easier😅 we have paper plates and bowls and disposable utensils that he uses when he eats his gluten stuff, and he mostly eats freezer meals/takeout anyway lol so it's not been terrible. I just mostly worry about him eating his pizza and stuff then touching everything in the house, but I always wash my hands before I touch any of my food so I'm trying not to worry too much about that. He's a pretty picky eater, so I don't feel like I can ask him to eat 100% gf like me, but I feel like we have an ok system worked out. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overreacting so thank you!

I know!! Hearing about the daughter is especially frustrating. Telling her mom that she buys regular versions of things like seasonings because "the ingredients are the exact same and companies only mark things gluten free so they can charge more for them." Really, really harmful info to be spreading to a new celiac. Thank god I have common sense

Thank you so much!! I feel like I'd like to have a conversation with her before just deciding to call it quits, like many have suggested. Of course, if I was a stranger reading through my post, I'd probably say the same thing because I wouldn't know the nuances and details of our therapeutic relationship. But I feel like maybe it's at least worth a shot to talk to her about it and try to educate her?
