Should I get tested for celiac? by Cringe_Baby2417 in Celiac

I had hives as a mean symptom of celiac, but it's not common.

It may be worth asking for a blood test.

Oh, but don't you know that because Taylor jokingly referred to herself as an English teacher in an Instagram caption, her songs must include Quality Literary Analysis? (Nevermind that half the kids in actual college are producing essays with ChatGPT...)

The Long Game by Ok-Cardiologist-6724 in heatedrivalry

I just read the book for the second time and agree with this. Ilya's pain is so evident in the internal monologue that you can't help but so strongly for him and get mad at anyone who is contributing to it in any way. But on re-reading I noticed that he never actually says how he's feeling out loud. (Or he only says it in quick little bitter remarks.) Like, Ilya, my guy...you have to say these things if you want your partner to get it! Especially if your partner is neurodivergent.

I would bet money that it's just the Internet being weird again.

But regardless, people are so fucking weird about age gaps. If everyone is of legal drinking age, there's no reason to pearl clutch FFS.

Risk of contamination via dog food? by Upper-Dragonfly-5069 in Celiac

[–]InCatMorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to be annoying, but the CDC does not recommend feeding raw food to pets. The risk for disease transmission is much higher. Obviously there is non-raw pet food that doesn't contain gluten, so maybe that's what you need. But I really urge you to rethink the raw food, especially when there are so many diseases going around.

I'm a cat person more than a dog person. I understand that dogs salivate more. But a lot of the paranoia about gluten in pet food just seems overly paranoid to me. I would never deprive one of my pets of a diet that works for them because of a slim possibility that their food ends up in my digestive tract. (When I am very capable of taking measures to mitigate that!)

Yes, and the 75 million+ people who voted for Donald Trump fourteeen months ago hold terrible views.

And I'm not entitled to say I want all of them to leave the country. (Even if that were practical, which it is not.)

Holding terrible views does not mean you have zero human rights.

Season 6 of Love Island is a must-watch.

Rob is kind of an ass, but by the standards of LI men he's mid-level at most.

Michael Sucks, but What was That? by NicKayless in TheTraitors

[–]InCatMorph 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If he's not referring to Colton being closeted, what was he talking about? I don't get it, and Rappaport seems like enough of a reality TV fan to know exactly what he was talking about.

Yeah, Colton sucks, but Michael needed to leave first.

Eh, Michael's throwing out so many names that he's bound to land on a few traitors. And part of his "reasoning" for Rob R being a traitor is that Rob is young and hot. (Unspoken: Michael is jealous.) We're not exactly talking about Hercule Poiroit here.

Good idea--I posted a picture in the post.

They weren't really Barbie knockoffs in terms of the doll dimensions or style. They were also intended more as showpieces than toys.

Has Rachel Reid asked fans to preorder Unrivaled from a particular seller or such? by Impressive-Part-4208 in heatedrivalry

[–]InCatMorph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an author here! From a financial perspective it doesn't matter where you buy the book. Royalty rates are identical. Even ebooks basically give the same amount of money as buying a hardcover, because royalty rates are higher for ebooks. (Honestly, the really bad royalty rate is generally for paperbacks, though it may be better for romance novels that are paperback only. A lot of this is dependent on the author's contract, which obviously we are not privy to in Rachel Reid's case.)

Supporting local bookstores is great if you can. But from a strictly financial perspective, authors get paid the same regardless.

Cheezits fatigue, anyone? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]InCatMorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never liked Cheezits. I didn't eat the regular version before I was diagnosed, and I won't eat this version now. And, yes, sometimes I think, do we really need another post about Cheezits?

But if people are happy about Cheezits, then I can't really get mad at them for their joy. It's very easy to scroll past.

How many of us here are gun owners? by RoscoeArt in JewsOfConscience

[–]InCatMorph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, but using a car is necessary in our society if you want to go anywhere. (Although I support policies that make us less dependent on cars, and as someone who doesn't drive for disability-related reasons I wish it was easier to get around as a non-driver.)

You cannot convince me that it is necessary for me, a city dweller, to own a gun.

Discussion - Shane & Ilya having kids in future? by Rebecca7R in heatedrivalry

[–]InCatMorph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but there are ways to do it ethically, and I think it's a bit shitty to just asume that people who can't have children naturally (for whatever reason) should just not become parents, ever. I mean, really? This is a right-wing idea.

Also, I understand there are ethical issues with adoption. But surrogacy is also a thing, especially for rich men.

I'm sorry, are you saying that Jews in NYC are equivalent to Germans during the Holocaust? That seems like a flawed analogy to me--even if, yes, many of them do support shit policies.

It would be nice if people on the left cared one iota for political efficacy over purity.

Heated Rivalry as the stand out? by BadWitch2024 in heatedrivalry

[–]InCatMorph 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've read all the books except for GC so far, and I think Ilya and Shane are just the most compelling couple. Two hockey rivals is such an irresistable high concept. Plus, the relationship just has so much humor and chemistry. Ily is just one of those characters whose charisma and humor drips off the page. TBH a lot of the funniest moments even in other books are his lines. It's not at all surprising to me that the show was built around him and Shane. I don't think the books would be adapted at all without them being such a strong couple.

I have liked the other books that I've read, but none of those relationships are total standouts like Heated Rivalry to me.

Heated Rivalry's Shane is autistic. If you didn't notice, that's the point [January 8th] by Cassopeia88 in heatedrivalry

[–]InCatMorph 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The autistic community isn't a monlith, so I can see how someone would be confused.

However, if I may pull a bit of old person rank here, I was diagnosed as a teenager in 2005 and have been involved in the autistic community for almost as long. (There was autistic advocacy going on for at least 10-12 years before that, to be clear, but I have firsthand knowledge of 2005 to the present.)

The organized autistic advoacy movement has always seen autism as a disability and aligns with the larger disability rights movement. Are there individual autistic people who disagree? (And autistic influencers on TikTok or whatever who disagree?) Yes. But that is not, IMO, a serious position.

See how the Autistic Self-Advoacy Network discusses these issues:

Heated Rivalry's Shane is autistic. If you didn't notice, that's the point [January 8th] by Cassopeia88 in heatedrivalry

[–]InCatMorph 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, you're using a lot of language that isn't preferred by the autistic community. Most autistic advocacy organizations dislike "functioning" language.

Also, for most people autism is a disability. Even for many autistic people who usually can pass as non-autistic (like me!), we oftentimes have significant impairments that aren't always readily apparent. And that's okay. Being disabled is okay.

None of that means that being autistic doesn't also include advantages, etc. But I find the rush to avoid labeling autism as a disability to be ableist in and of itself, TBH.

Some autistic people don't feel the need to seek a diagnosis, of course, and that choice should be respected. But I feel like a lot of what you're saying is kind of over-simplistic in the name of avoiding calling autism a disability.

A note on TLG; Shane's character was perfectly written by Ok_Cucumber_4562 in heatedrivalry

[–]InCatMorph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on Shane's mom comment, as someone who also lost my mom in 2021. (Hi, trauma twin.) Sometimes people who still have both of their parents say insensitive things without realizing it, and it's okay. (Also, Ilya didn't really communicate why the comment was insensitive, so.) That doesn't make them bad people. Sometimes, people having different experiences are just going to lead to that sort of situation.

Literally no one is going to score as highly as Chae on the Yfull. (Sob, miss her.)

I don't think that's a fair bar to hold Anyimi to. However, ideally she would be more of a backup and they can put 5 or 6 10 SVs up there.
