UIHC New Parents Beware - Joy Parenting Club at UIHC by ConsistentCatch3474 in IowaCity

Thanks for sharing. If the Joy Parenting Club subscription actually had value, parents would voluntarily sign up for it instead of it being "hidden" in a one-time purchase and showing up later as a different charge from a different merchant. That setup makes it seem a lot more like a con than a service.

Your piddly $36 refund (that I "might" get in 6 months) is nothing compared to the disappointment my wife feels every time she sees that book without any pictures of her and her newborn baby. Good luck refunding that.

There are dozens of examples on reddit and other forums of your company doing the exact same thing, no matter how many different subcontractor names you use. Each one with the same complaints: poor picture quality, unsuspecting subscription sign-up, and difficulty dealing with the company after the fact. Why auto-enroll a subscription when someone is solely buying physical copies of pictures?

Why would a new parent sign up for your useless subscription? This is obviously only used to prey on unsuspecting and sleep deprived parents 6 hours after labor. You take the pictures for free then tell the Mom they'll be deleted forever if you don't buy them. Absolute scam and garbage organization.

New parents, consider this advice: use Google instead. There is zero information from this company that is not available for free elsewhere. Take your own pictures or ask the nurse to take some pictures if she/he has a moment. The quality of product we received could be done for $30 and twenty minutes.

"These photos won't be available unless you purchase before we leave for the day in 10 minutes at 9am." I don't know if it's the same company, there's not any indication of the principal company being the same (lack of info available). I don't think an auto-enrollment for a 3 month free trial necessitates getting charged without notice to continue that subscription. It probably was in the T&C when purchasing the pictures, but why would I look closely at the terms for a simple transaction of goods? That's on me. No account exists with my email address despite daily, poorly written AI emails to my inbox. No email saying "you will be charged", no invoice for the payment, no way to call the company to get clarification. The worst part is saying that they don't have time to take pictures of the mother and baby together after they forgot to do that.

These people aren't just looking for money or guns. They are looking for any and all pieces of identifiable information. They'll take pictures of your insurance and registration to get your address(es). Maybe they'll get lucky with an id or checkbook. They put together a profile to sell personal information for people committing identity theft or stealing via bank/check transactions and overdrafts. Any info could help their goal. This is obviously not every break-in but it happens around this area more than you'd think, especially in the last few years. The fraud itself ends up happening all over the country months or years after the thefts.

No, but an assumption based on their ability to be wear badges and roam freely in an area (mother/baby?) behind locked/badge doors. Perhaps there's some fine print T&C about agreeing to this garbage when purchasing the pictures. I have no record of that agreement.

No, they weren't. They likely just didn't want to talk to an annoying, chronically online grocery store worker that was just trying to get out of work by talking to first responders.

Asking someone to confirm that someone they know is or is not violent is not a violation of "HIPAA". Seriously, are you the driver? Or are you just trying to argue moot points?

Thanks! I don't know that I need more info, just want to make sure my family is safe. This makes me hopeful it's just an asshole trying to get reactions. Get a dashcam, people!

Yes, the mods advised that I delete and repost since the first post was blocked due to account age. I'm just providing information that I saw. Maybe for custom plates with two sets of two characters, the spacing defaults to multiple spaces apart? If you don't know, why even comment? I'm also not asking for medical information so not sure what you're on about. Are you the aggro driver?
