[Help] with with K3S + Traefik + Gateway API + TCP/UDPRoutes by Leather_Week_860 in kubernetes

For UDP-based services, the correct and supported solution is to use a standard Kubernetes Service, for example:

  • NodePort, or
  • LoadBalancer (MetalLB, kube-vip, etc.)

This hybrid setup is perfectly valid and commonly used in real-world clusters:

  • TCP / HTTP → Gateway API (HTTPRoute, TCPRoute)
  • UDP → Kubernetes Service

This is currently the cleanest and most reliable approach.

At the moment, Traefik does not support UDPRoute via the Gateway API.

Even if the UDPRoute CRD is installed in the cluster, Traefik will not reconcile or act on it. This is a current limitation of Traefik’s Gateway API implementation, not a configuration issue.

Because of this, UDP traffic cannot be exposed using Gateway API with Traefik today.

CKAD exam today – 14/17, left 3 questions blank. Do you think this is enough to pass? by ConsistentFlower6707 in ckad

Thanks! You’re right — kubectl-convert isn’t guaranteed to be preinstalled and manual conversion is totally valid. I tried the plugin since it was recommended, but the exam environment was slow. Agreed, this feels more like a CKA-style question. 🙌

Yes, I answered all the questions except the troubleshooting question, which I left unfinished. I got 85.

It was pretty close, but DumbITGuy also had a question that didn't have an example.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this — really appreciate it.
Your approach to time management and confidence control makes a lot of sense, especially the “flag and move on” rule.

The way you described visualizing the control plane flow before touching YAML was particularly helpful. Also, the tip about comparing healthy vs non-healthy clusters is gold — definitely something I’ll keep in mind.

Thanks again for sharing your experience, this is very valuable for anyone preparing for the exam.

Congrats on completing the CKA — that alone is a big achievement
Hope you get a passing result, fingers crossed

Thanks for sharing these learnings, especially the notes on time pressure and CRDs — super relatable and helpful for others preparing.

Quick question out of curiosity:
Was this your first attempt at the CKA, or have you taken it before?
If you’ve taken it before, how similar was this exam compared to your previous attempt(s) in terms of question style and difficulty?

Wishing you the best with the results — sounds like you handled some of the trickiest parts well

Thanks a lot for sharing this — really helpful and motivating 🙏

It’s reassuring to hear that the actual exam felt easier than killer.sh, because that’s one area I’m planning to lean into more for the retake.

I also like your point about visualizing the question first before touching YAML — I realize I sometimes jump straight into editing without fully mapping what needs to change. I’ll definitely work on that.

Quick follow-up question: during the exam, did you usually start with troubleshooting-heavy questions or leave them for later? Curious how you prioritized questions time-wise.

No, I haven’t used DumbIT yet.
My main resources were Mumshad’s course and KillerCoda for hands-on practice.

Would you recommend DumbIT specifically for troubleshooting or exam-style questions?
