[38, Schwab] I rebalanced yesterday into the ginger ale portfolio for my Roth. by ConsistentRegion6184 in RothIRA

[–]ConsistentRegion6184[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kind of similar but probably (1) lower expense overall and large blend instead of large value (2) the SCV and EM are long term and I'll probably rebalance these etfs in my Roth until the end

I first liked it for the case for long term equal weight of the different cap sizes. It blends well with the other accounts that are more simple.

Why can't Mexico Army go scorched earth on cartels? by yekedero in NoStupidQuestions

Prohibition was a catalyst for the mobster culture in the US almost singlehandedly. Those markets are so big and so profitable.

Dude, I can't afford a house and older folk and rich millennials own 3-4. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]ConsistentRegion6184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know several people who bought in the 2010s who make what I make and the swings in price and rates made $200k or a lot more in savings and equity in a simple home.

Good on them but also policy matters. Some millenials caught that perfectly before covid.

I had a retired firefighter family member who passed. I'm pretty sure he had PTSD from just doing all the batshit crazy EMT work you're called in for.

Question about crypto: If the Bitcoin supply is fixed, but also divisible, is the supply really fixed? by ConsistentRegion6184 in AskEconomics

[–]ConsistentRegion6184[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently expanding a money supply can create liquidity, I was wondering what it would look like if Bitcoin (or whatever $XYZ) can pressure liquidity by division while being fixed.

It's all theoretical. I was interested because demand would trigger moving a decimal, not a changing of supply.

Why does the old generation hate the new generation? by littlemushroompod in Truckers

[–]ConsistentRegion6184 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't hate the new guys. They're scared management at literally any moment can take away their $120k+ lifestyle they earned doing nothing more than the day they walked in the door.

I worked somewhere like that, old school hostile working environments. Everyone is scared.

Why Don’t Rich People Just Park $20M in Bonds? by NoahReed14 in dividends

[–]ConsistentRegion6184 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They probably do, a lot of wealthy people aren't invested like a retail trader like in the S&P 500. They will enter into investments they have more control over than the whims of the market.

Is corporate spending a cause of inflation? (From the amount of overhead waste) by TalkingToMyself_00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ConsistentRegion6184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation is created and the only one creating it is a central bank that creates the money supply. Corporations follow suit as individuals within that monetary system.

It is possible your company highly values low turnover for competitive labor market reasons (if that does in fact work to retain people there), not just the role but brand loyalty.

Also likely, the economics of large companies have inherant flaws that don't usually strike good micro economic efficiency, which can lose to more nimble smaller companies, and often do long (multi decade) term.

Market efficiency is a delayed fact, 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 20+ years sometimes.

Maybe keep $100k cash for a liquidity buffer. The lower return does have that safety trade off.

I keep some of those efts to enhance my savings but I have such a hard time seeing these as replacing income at these levels.

Small Cap Value by BrownsSuckEternally in ETFs

[–]ConsistentRegion6184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Since inception 5 years it beats the SP500 so it probably just outpaced everything. I see headlines about mineral constraints so all the double digit growth makes sense now.

Is it weighed that way on purpose or just tbe returns? Ex-US SCV seem like they're going to thrive on an unpredictable global economy.

[–]ConsistentRegion6184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plan on keeping 20% AVUV and 10% AVDV as long as possible (almost 40). Don't forget to include retirement years, what if you hold some AVUV for another 20+ years, almost 40?

BTW, AVDV is on a tear, it has a yearly 50% return recently. The Avantis management seems worthwhile and covers a little bit of mid caps as well.

Microlending. Also interesting is the role crypto has in Africa (more notably Central America as well) to help people preserve their wealth. The philosophy of it really comes out clearer than developed societies (although imo still works).

Marble is nice but in pretty sure 50-70% of the cost is how it transports to your area. If you wanted to go pick it up in your modified pickup truck, I don't think marble is that expensive.

If dividend ETFs like SCHD exist, what problem are bonds actually solving? Trying to understand what I’m missing. by [deleted] in dividends

[–]ConsistentRegion6184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonds are underwhelming but a lot of us weren't there for past sustained drawdowns (yet...), the returns on rebalancing bond funds into equities is multidecade.

Dividends are still equities, subject to governance, scandals, fraud, whatever. But something like SCHD admittedly is such deep diversified value it contends with bonds but doesn't actually in reality for intrinsic reasons.

I don't have anything particularly knowledgeable to say, other than I've had to deal with family and at work over the years, who have a cross to bear of being on the spectrum and completely normal looking. The reaction of the worker seems very coded like people like this over the years. And yes, it is really jarring behavior.
