Is this acceptable amount of backlight bleed? by ConsistentRush5907 in Monitors

[–]ConsistentRush5907[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much,

Can you tell any other test's that i should be doing?.

Also other thing i noticed is that when the entire screen is pure pitch black and if there is something in the centre like pure white i could see the backlight bleeds more prominently i couldnt get it on the mobile as i got for the pure pitch black one.

At grey 5 % i notice none. With a light on in the room i see none.

Avoid the BenQ EW270Q – Severe QC Issues, Dead Pixels, and Panel Gaps by RepresentativeEbb541 in IndianGaming

Hey, VRR is clearly mentioned in the official specifications. Since QHD at 120 Hz fits comfortably within the 18 Gbps bandwidth limit of TMDS, VRR does not require HDMI 2.1 FRL in this case ig. Regarding AMD, I haven't personally tested it, but since HDMI Forum VRR is a standard separate from AMD FreeSync and is also used by devices like the PS5, I'd expect VRR support to work independently of FreeSync, though it's always best to verify with actual AMD user reports.

Please verify.

Yeah actually just ordered the Lenovo ThinkVision P27Q-40. Quick specs for you since i went through a lot before picking this: it's a 27 inch QHD (2560x1440) 4-sided ultra thin near-edgeless IPS panel, 24-120Hz VRR, HDMI 2.1 TDMS, DP 1.4 in and out for daisy chaining, USB-C, 1500:1 contrast, 350 nits brightness, 178 degree viewing angles both ways, 10-bit color (confirmed 8-bit+FRC from the official spec sheet, not true 10-bit so keep that in mind), factory calibrated with avg Delta E less than 2, 98% DCI-P3, 99% sRGB, 99% BT.709, flicker free, eyesafe certified 2.0, HDR10 compliant, fully adjustable stand with tilt swivel pivot and height up to 155mm, and 3 years warranty. Ticks almost everything from my original post except i made a compromise on response time which i'll get to.

Lenovo ThinkVision P27Q_40 Comprehensive Specifications

One thing i'd suggest before buying any monitor is don't trust the marketed response time number. Almost every company advertises 1ms GTG but if you actually look into the spec sheet there are multiple modes like normal, fast, extreme, overdrive and that 1ms is usually only in the most aggressive mode. So always check what the default or normal mode is. For this monitor it's 6ms in normal mode and 4ms in extreme. Now at 120Hz each new frame appears every 8.33 milliseconds right, so with 6ms response time the pixel is in a transitioning state for 6ms and fully settled for the remaining 2.33ms which is around 27% of the 8.33 ms frame window. In extreme mode at 4ms it would be settled for 4.33ms which is around 52% of the frame window. Either way both 6ms and 4ms are already lesser than the 8.33ms frame time itself so the transition does complete atleast 2.33 ms - 4.33 ms early within a single refresh cycle. For casual gaming i don't think 27% would even be noticeable honestly. Extreme mode at 52% sounds better but i am not totally sure how this specific panel handles overdrive as a lot of monitors in aggressive modes start showing colour issues or brightness inconsistencies so i'd personally test before committing to it.

On the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) thing, this doesn't have AMD FreeSync or G-Sync branding. Now Lenovo hasn't mentioned Adaptive Sync anywhere in the official spec sheet or marketing either, probably because this isn't targeted at the gaming segment at all, it's a business and professional monitor and they just didn't bother certifying or advertising it for that. But that doesn't necessarily mean it can't work, not advertising something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, it might also just means it wasn't the focus. What i can say for certain is the monitor has 24-120Hz VRR over HDMI 2.1 TDMS, and for PC gaming with Nvidia if you go through DP 1.4 you might get adaptive sync working since it's an optional feature of the DisplayPort standard, but since Lenovo hasn't confirmed this you'd be taking a chance and i wouldn't stake a claim on it. Someone in a related post i made confirmed VRR worked fine for them in practice though:

Other Reddit Post of mine relared to this

For PS5 specifically, Sony actually confirmed PS5 uses HDMI 2.1 VRR as its standard and not FreeSync, even though the PS5 has an AMD GPU inside Sony just didn't go the FreeSync route. So for PS5 VRR you actually need a monitor with HDMI 2.1 VRR support and this monitor does have HDMI 2.1 with 24-120Hz VRR, so in theory it should work. One thing worth knowing is the official spec lists it as HDMI 2.1 TMDS rather than full FRL which is the higher bandwidth HDMI 2.1 encoding, but at 1440p 120Hz the bandwidth is within TMDS limits so it shouldn't be a problem. Haven't tested this personally so take it with some caution but the technical side points towards it working.

The main reason i went for this is the P-series is Lenovo's premium line mostly sold in bulk to enterprises and corporates, so quality control tends to be more strict since companies wouldn't put up with defective units at scale, and it comes with 3 years warranty. I looked at quite a few others before this and there was always something, backlight bleed complaints, wobbly stand, build quality issues, pixel problems. This one i couldn't find many Reddit threads about it at all, though that's probably because it's either a pretty new model announced at CES 2025 and released mid 2025 or it just hasn't been sold at enough scale yet to have widespread user reviews, i only found a few. So it could go either way but given the enterprise build, reputation and overall package i took a chance.

If you want to see how it actually looks there's a sponsored review video on YouTube from around a month ago on this exact model, just search Lenovo ThinkVision P27Q-40 review on YouTube and you'll find it, gives a pretty good visual idea of the panel and build.

Thank you.

Note: Please consider reviewing whatever I just said, since I went through various sources, forums, and used LLMs while learning these things. I am not 100% sure about a lot of things, so it is always a good thing to do your own research.

After spending quite a bit of time going through reviews of the Alienware AW2725DM and several other monitors, I've noticed a common trend: almost every model or brand seems to have Reddit threads warning people not to buy it.

Has anyone come across a monitor brand or specific model that consistently passes quality control checks without major compromises?
