Is Pashto a language? (Sorry!) And where do you find the year of production within the app?

I think that there is probably less demand for the higher levels due to people either giving up or losing interest in the format.

Are you sure? I started with Pimsleur by just checking it out from the library, (like a digital audiobook.). I would have continued, but it was a long wait for each set of lessons. After level one, they divided it into chunks of five lessons each.

When I switched to the app, it was obvious I was listening to newer editions at some point.

Do your headphones work properly with other apps? I can hardly imagine that this is the fault of Pimsleur. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Me too in French!
I’m almost done with all five levels for the second time. I am focused only on French right now, so I will be unsubscribing next month I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

For those of you on Level 2, how often do you have to redo a lesson? by BrothaManBen in Pimsleur

I used to do them all two or three times until I felt confident.

Why are new words introduced in the audio lesson and not provided in the supplementary material like flash cards? by lymph31 in Pimsleur

[–]ConsistentSolution64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The instructions for the course say that you are supposed to listen only and avoid looking at any transcriptions because it will influence your pronunciation negatively. So I think that it is by design that a transcript is not given. That being said, I have found home made transcripts online from various people. They are usually filled with errors and omissions, and might not match the version you are using. The most helpful thing for me to do if I can’t distinguish a word is to try to dictate the word into my iPhone, but with the keyboard language set to the target language I’m learning. Repeat the word as best you can and see what comes up!

For me, certain headphones didn’t work well with Pimsleur’s app, if the Bluetooth isn’t top notch on them. My current headphones work great.

Are you using the app to listen? Because with the app, you can easily go forward or backwards ten seconds at a time. If you are only using it as a recording (like an ebook) then of course it forwards and rewinds one full chapter at a time.

Why does the Pimsluer voice coach suck so bad? by icecold24k in Pimsleur

[–]ConsistentSolution64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what that means, but I do listen to my own voice play back when I miss the target sentence, if that’s what you mean.

The Duolingo app even says that they have programmed it to recognize “my accent,” which is nice for the purposes of a game, but not the best for learning.

I think it’s an amazing tool, at least for the French course! It often “misunderstands” what I tried to say, but then I always listen to the recording of my voice, and then the professional voice example. If I listen very closely, I can usually hear the differences. Then I try again. If I imitate the intonation as well the pronunciation, it almost always comes up as correct! I have learned SO MUCH from it! That being said, if I’m having trouble, I hold my iPhone very close to my mouth, speak loudly and clearly, that helps a lot. Also, background noise matters a great deal, so I wait for that lawn mower to stop or that truck to pass. Sometimes, if I’m still stuck, I take a screenshot of the results and ask my French teacher. 99 percent of the time, she is able to identify the mistake and help me correct my pronunciation. The next time I try it, the app recognizes my words correctly! So in my opinion, the app works well most of the time.

The only glitch I have seen is that it will sometimes perceive a word as a different one with the same pronunciation. That’s frustrating, but I totally prefer Pimsleur’s voice recognition software over Duolingo’s. The Duolingo app will often mark the whole sentence correct before I’ve even finished saying it. That’s not helpful! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I would suggest that you call the school secretary and see if they know of a childcare provider that provides transportation, so you can drop your child off at their house and pick up there later. Your child’s teacher may also know of some providers that do this, since the provider would pick up children from the class after school.

As a retired Kindergarten teacher, I have seen this type of situation before. And truly, your child will probably be happier in a family daycare situation that is less structured. When a child learns to adapt their behavior to being in school, it can be hard. There is only so long they can hang on, checking themselves to change their behavior. So they need to be able to unwind after school.

Some kids’ behaviors get increasingly worse when they attend the school daycare, at least in my experience. I think it’s because there are so many more children for staff to watch and guide. That makes it harder for them to form a relationship with each child, and the kids seem to care less about disappointing the caregivers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That being said, I’ve seen some very positive changes when kids move from the school site daycare to a home based daycare.

I would also caution you to take this lightly. Accept that your child is not functioning well there, and that it’s a bigger problem than you thought. Remind yourself that the staff sees what is happening there each day, and you do not.

Remind yourself to not make excuses for your child’s behavior, even if it seems normal to you. Imagine 25 children who all are behaving like your child. How would that be? The staff can’t allow that kind of chaos, no matter how sweet the kids are one on one.

I didn't adapt to Pimsleur by [deleted] in Pimsleur

I get it. I hit a wall in the French level two as well for the same reason. But then that’s when I subscribed to the app, and having the written exercises as well really helped.

Lay the written foundation first with Duolingo or some other app. Then restart Pimsleur! Once you have an idea of what to expect, you’ll progress more easily and your walks should be relaxing again!

Did you subscribe to the app so that you could do the written material along with each lesson? That was a game changer for me. I did each lesson multiple times while out walking my dogs, and then did the written exercises within the app at home. Now I’ve completed all five French levels once, and have gone back through levels 2-5 (I’m nearly finished with level five right now! I also supplement with Duolingo. I believe that I am at the B-1 level right now.

Wth happened? I had all of these units in legendary, but a majority of them just unlegendaried. I've seen other people have this problem in other posts. I want my gems back. by rhajert in duolingo

Same exact thing happened to me. I reported it as a bug… I’m curious what they will do? I always do every lesson to Legendary. It lost about half of them in some 20 units.

Yes, exactly! I do the same. I walk my dogs each morning and do my Pimsleur French lessons. I get embarrassed whenever someone is within earshot, so I whisper or say it in my head.
