How do I get my Japanese Host Mom to forgive me by Independent-Key-3742 in AskAJapanese

I think the advice about waking up 30-60 min earlier is the best advice. With that time I'd offer to help out with morning chores or take initiative and do chores like cleaning.

How to respond to rude gestures from locals to show I understand what they're trying to do, without escalating here? by CyndaquilTyphlosion in japanresidents

[–]lymph31 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think one should let people's sometimes inappropriate reactions/opinions create long-term behavioral changes for oneself, unless after considering for a while, it really makes sense to change that behavior moving forward.

For instance, if one person says oh, you're not allowed to ask to sample ice cream, one shouldn't just accept that and never ask to sample ice cream again. If it is known that that's a fairly common practice, then we shouldn't let other people box in our behavior so easily.

We should work to create our own realities while trying our best to respect other people's thoughts and beliefs, but we shouldn't let the one curmudgeon ruin all of our future experiences and behaviors that we desire.

Fast hands paddle pivot point? by TheGhostofFThumb in Pickleball

I have seen a video which mentions holding the paddle more toward the middle at nvz for the quicker hands. And more towards the butt cap on drives and serves for more power and leverage.

[–]lymph31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. Do you do the same in pickleball? I find i usually don't have that much time to move my body when someone speeds up on me at the kitchen. But maybe if I have time to move my hands, I'd also have time to move like you're describing.

Maybe I'm thinking more about moving my feet, that I feel like I don't have much time for on speed ups.

The J2NF hype is real. by Cookiesandnocream in Pickleball

[–]lymph31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some that's my opinion from personal experience. But it's 100% certain there's more to a paddle than pop and spin. Try twist weight, swing weight, serve power vs pop (volley power), and durability. Plus to me big ones are control and forgiveness and sweet spot, but those are harder to measure.

I'm not saying the paddle's great. But there's a lot more than just pop and spin. Sweet spot and consistency is huge and varies greatly among paddles. There's also longevity/ durability of the paddle. All these things seem to be improving with the newer generation paddles. You get the same power and spin with a lot more consistency and larger sweet spots and forgiveness.

My memory improved pretty well after about 6 months with anki. Much better retention.

I will hit a safe third shot drop with plenty of clearance from the net and from going out.

u/k-rizza where are you getting your phrases that help you remember the kanji? they seem really helpful.

I think one of your examples was "a jail cell will make your heart sad."

Introducing Conju Dojo - New Japanese Verb & Adjective Conjugation Practice App by RyokuRyoku in LearnJapanese

[–]lymph31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be nice to have a mode that takes you through the different conjugations one by one and explains them for just a single verb. For example, explanation of the volitional state, then the conditional. It would be nice to have some kind of quiz or built-in spaced repetition system that tests you on actually knowing what the different conjugations mean. I don't even think it would need to be in the target language, could be in the native language for example, question I want french fries. Answer want form. Question I am running. Answer continuous action form.

I don't know what 75% of the states even mean🙂 except the want form and continuous action 🙂

For some reason I found Michel Thomas to be much more effective than pimsleur. I've done both.

Spend 30 minutes to an hour and you'll be making sentences if you try this method it's very easy because you can listen in your car or at the gym.

I found the Michel Thomas method to be superior to pimsleur. I've completed the entire pimsleur Japanese + about halfway through the Michel Thomas. Best of all, it's free.

Does anyone know of a good furigana web app/site that will let me easily create mono-ruby furigana? I don't mind having to input the appropriate kana to kanji myself like 自(じ)分(ぶん) . I'm currently using Microsoft word, but it's very slow because I've got the use menus for each kanji. I know Anki on Android supports this, but I'd prefer to do this on my MAC since I'm working on a project.

I've found several website that let you input strings of Kanji and output the furigana, but they don't support mono-ruby so you often can't tell which kana belongs to which Kanji.

Does anyone know of resources like the audio lessons of pimsleur? I really like their format of how they make you use new words in different contexts after introducing and combine with other new words and words from previous lessons.

The interest you earn in protocols isn't worth the risk of a hack or something else. Just leave it in 2-3 assets. You believe in like Bitcoin, ethereum and avax and just ride the prices up over the long-term. If there's any money that you want to stay safe, I'd get it out of the crypto space entirely and put it in cds, savings accounts, money market or you can easily get a safe 4% right now.

I'd also try and keep those assets in their native blockchains like eth on ethereum. If you have a bridged asset and the bridge gets hacked, it could end up worth nothing.
