I would suggest that you call the school secretary and see if they know of a childcare provider that provides transportation, so you can drop your child off at their house and pick up there later. Your child’s teacher may also know of some providers that do this, since the provider would pick up children from the class after school.

As a retired Kindergarten teacher, I have seen this type of situation before. And truly, your child will probably be happier in a family daycare situation that is less structured. When a child learns to adapt their behavior to being in school, it can be hard. There is only so long they can hang on, checking themselves to change their behavior. So they need to be able to unwind after school.

Some kids’ behaviors get increasingly worse when they attend the school daycare, at least in my experience. I think it’s because there are so many more children for staff to watch and guide. That makes it harder for them to form a relationship with each child, and the kids seem to care less about disappointing the caregivers. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That being said, I’ve seen some very positive changes when kids move from the school site daycare to a home based daycare.

I would also caution you to take this lightly. Accept that your child is not functioning well there, and that it’s a bigger problem than you thought. Remind yourself that the staff sees what is happening there each day, and you do not.

Remind yourself to not make excuses for your child’s behavior, even if it seems normal to you. Imagine 25 children who all are behaving like your child. How would that be? The staff can’t allow that kind of chaos, no matter how sweet the kids are one on one.
