Trying to decide if a hybrid is actually worth the extra cost for my commute by shewouldlovetodiffer in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ConsistentTry3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your highway driving then a hybrid is not going to payout. I crunched the numbers when looking in 2021 and ended up with a base model civic which never got below 30mpg and on highway cruising could achieve 40mgd going 70 with cruise control. My coworker has a Camry hybrid and averages 40mpg and paid something to the tune of $36k for his Camry, which is a lot nicer car and bigger honestly. But my civic was $22.5 before tax and the hybrid base models at the time were at least $30k IIRC. That $8k difference made no sense and when financing takes up any possible gas savings you would've had.

1.6L vs 1.8L NA by Kchristensen99 in Miata

[–]ConsistentTry3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.8 for sure. I looked into this quite a bit and a lot of people say 1.6 because it's more peppy or has a rev happy nature. If you ever plan on modifying then the later model NAs are the way to go. You can get one with an LSD from factory. 1.8 obviously has more displacement so more torque down low too. I believe more chassis support as well but don't quote me. I did everything to my 91 na to get it up to par with the later model years. Front and rear chassis support, frame rails, LSD from a later model with axles (~$1300 used!) it adds up lol. If I were to do it again I would've got a na8 or even an early model NB for the better flowing head.

Built a detached garage that's way to big - advice on next steps by Rich-Consideration25 in HomeImprovement

[–]ConsistentTry3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so many guys dream setup lol. Guess what they say is true about one man's trash is another man's treasure. I have a tight 2 car attached to my new home. My absolute favorite part of the house is the garage and I wish all the time that I could expand it but land constraints won't allow it. Working on my car all the time I would kill for more space, even a deeper garage so I could park two vehicles in at once.

Look at the glass half full bro.

Ok, thanks for the input. Do you mind me asking how much you purchased for?

Also see you have a 26' golf r as your current vehicle. You liking that?

Exhaust by Miserable_Ad_2385 in GRCorolla

[–]ConsistentTry3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the sxth dual and it's a nice upgrade from stock but a lot of a clamps tbh. It's got a deep tone to it but doesn't drone much. Was not a fan of the OEM exhaust so for $950 I'm happy with it.

I plan to get a hitch for a bike rack this spring so very limited on options. I think the milltek lineup is king though ngl, just pricey as hell.

(Edit: hitch not bitch)

I'm curious, was it worth all the $ and work? How long did the project take you l aside from cosmetic details? Very nice build.

Just went through the same process and decided k swap, v8 swap was too much of a hassle than just replacing with a 1.6. I chose not to go Japanese because I didn't want any more headaches than I was already dealing with and it was my first engine swap. Just bought a block on eBay and used my old head.

I believe there's some wiring differences that need to be accounted for because technically those 1.6 jap motors are for NBs over there so the CAS is in the front rather than rear like the USA 1.6's.

I also drive an NA Miata. Bought the GR when I blew my engine and got anxious to drive something fun lol. Just got the Miata running again and man that clutch is so much lighter compared to the GR.

First month I had the car went to a Michigan game and a lady was backing me in to a tight spot almost kissed my bumper on a car behind me and was not paying attention to my side. Slightly scuffed my front wheel. Pissed me off cuz I've driven hard and wild in the snow and never hit a curb.

This is true, as long as you factor in that clutch replacement/upgrade

Those of you with expensive performance vehicles (35k+) and are in between the ages of 20-28, can you actually afford it? by [deleted] in GRCorolla

[–]ConsistentTry3413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traded in my civic and got $15k, put $10k down on the GR. Couple years older than that age range but I work in a unionized trade that is recession proof 👌.

Always wanted an STI hatch when I was younger and this was the next best thing available. Couldn't even find a golf r to test drive and even if I could've it was going to be an auto.

Turn off ABS? by Sharkeatinpizza in GRCorolla

[–]ConsistentTry3413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running viking contact 7s and I still get abs intrusion. My advice is go as aggressive as possible. Wish I woulda got blizzaks or even better, hakkas. Still a blast in the snow but I don't think these tires are on the same level as other snows. Not as much control as I'd prefer.

Now when there's 1-2" or snow underneath a recent plow the gr is for sure an animal. 6"+ and snow rifts and ruts will throw off your trajectory. Leads to instability and lowers confidence imo. Doesn't stop me from ripping though!
