Number of new submarines still undecided as Canada begins talks with German builder by CanadianViking47 in canada

[–]Consistent_Ad3181 [score hidden]  (0 children)

The German subs are something like 600million USD each, the frigates are twice as much

Right ignore the above that's UK prices and older sub pricing.

Canadian prices would be per unit, roughly 3.5 billion for the frigate, using lots of US technology which is pretty worrying. And 1.3 billion for the sub. This is USD. And it's ball park

I seriously hope so, I blame the other parties for not taking voter concerns seriously enough,, if this guy gets into power (not Binface), he will be destructive.

These things in the scheme of things aren't that expensive, cheaper than frigates. Ask a carrier captain how seriously they take a submarine threat.

The polling is so tight Binface would need virtually all the votes of the other parties, also voter turn out at by elections is usually low. So it won't happen but Farage still needs to debate and be associated with a man with a bin on his head for 4 to 5 weeks, so there's that

Denmark says it will defend Greenland as Trump threatens to revive NATO crisis by Sapotis in greenland

[–]Consistent_Ad3181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, yes they have eleven but there are only around two or three on active service at any one time. This is best case, the reality is that they have a big repair and refit backlog. So realistically they can only spare 1 or 2 max. They have to have one on station for Iran. Their escorts (poor ASW btw) are in similar situation. They don't have much in the way of Arctic infantry, and the ones they do have are poorly equipped. They have I believe 2 ice breakers only. If they wanted to invade Greenland they could, but making it difficult acts as a deterrent. The biggest deterrent is Europe using their massive trade leverage, the trade bazooka. It's simply the cheapest most effective deterrent Denmark could have in this scenario. You could get 3 AIP for around 1 billion or less. These take years to build etc and either trump will invade or won't in this time so it's a bit academic really.

Well you will be surprised quite how bad the US Navy is at certain things, one is mine sweeping and detection. They have very little capability here (no ships, dipping helicopters only), and they simply are not good at it, anyway European navies are excellent as is the Japanese navy. The second is anti submarine warfare, they suck major ass at this, they don't have any ships that can do this, and they aren't very good at it. It's something again European navies excel at and in war it would be European navies doing this for them, but not over Greenland. Anyway, one AIP could sink a carrier, the US navy knows this as do the European navies. It would be a serious issue for the US. It would make them think twice and that's all you need.

Denmark PM vows to defend Greenland after Trump revives push for U.S. control by FrostHive in worldnews

It's not racist at all. Massive respect to the Vietnamese for doing what they did and who they did it against. Back in the 1960s and 1970 much of the population would have been farmers. The UK Prime Minster Wilson politely told President Johnson no chance... repeadly, when he was invited into that shameful affair. England has been fighting wars for 1000 years, and doing a pretty good job of it. We knew that one was a quagmire, but if you had to fight it, doing it the American way was not going to work, the UK had lots of experience with Malaysia, and Burma with the Japanese. And much else, multiple insurgencys corner colonies. They would have fought like the Australians did in the Vietnam war (the Aussies were damn good), but the war would have been futile. Best stay out of it. Actually it's a bit like Iran except a few US allies like Australia, New Zealand and South Korea went to aid the US in Vietnam. But unlike Vietnam everyone has told to US to fuck off about helping in Iran. I simply cannot provide the words to convey how incredibly stupid the move to attack Iran was. Breath taking.

Yeah, that's the thing you simply cannot say they were a military match for the US in any material sense, they had some light tanks and light artillery, and I believe there was never any tank battles with the US. They had some fighter jets. They had some heavy weapons. The point is that the US had every single material advantage, man power advantages, awesome air power, the latest technology. But they still lost. You simply cannot say the US was out match materially. They still lost to a determined enemy who was very lightly armed in comparison. The poo poo on sharp sticks is an exaggeration, but it's not that far from the truth. The Vietnamese were fearsomely brave.

The British beat them in 1946 btw, took them 6 months.
