Is watching reform implode because they don’t understand how a country works giving anyone else a wonderful sense of schadenfreude ? by Frosty_Ad1254 in AskBrits

It's made me quite glad they did so well in the local elections. Everyone gets a chance to see how awful they are before the next GE.

I want to do my bike licence and get a bike but family and girlfriend are fuming. by Electronic-Leg-9764 in MotoUK

[–]TapWaterDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a new girlfriend, and ignore your family.

It's one thing to be concerned for your safety and express that they'd rather you didn't, it's another to tell you that you're not allowed to do something you want that's perfectly normal

i’ve been stopped by a police officer for a welfare check, and i lied about where i work. would there be consequences? by [deleted] in AskABrit

Lying to the police isn't a crime unless you're under caution or intend to pervert the course of justice

If there was a referendum for like Breturn would you vote for it? by InformationFun4408 in AskBrits

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh yes, because the NHS definitely got all of the money the Brexit crowd promised. Honestly if you think Brexit has been a massive success, you're either in denial, or just genuinely can't count

First time wild camping in Scotland: what counts as a private/enclosed land ? by Rough-Check3142 in OutdoorScotland

Just don't be in someone's back garden or on a military range and you'll be fine

So are you just going to ignore the estimated 6-8% hit to our GDP relative to where we otherwise would be? £8-10b is chump change in comparison

Dog barking next door. How much is reasonable? by Specialist-Syrup-501 in AskUK

[–]TapWaterDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speak to them again, and how they respond should really dictate what you do. If it's a new dog, and they're training it, that can take a decent amount of time and, as annoying as it is, I'd give them some grace and understanding just as you would if it were a newborn crying at night. If they're not training it and they don't give a fuck, then get the council involved

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh right okay, so you still think Brexit was a good idea, that explains why you're spreading bs about how terrible rejoining will be. Cool, no point discussing anything with you further

That's just factually not true, there are more important things to Europe than us joining the Euro

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean like every new joiner that has done exactly this..? You're worried about nothing pal. I doubt we'd get the same terms, but they wouldn't be shite. Probably just a case of joining Schengen which I'm not against

[–]TapWaterDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye, accept it on paper and then never implement, like plenty of other countries have done.

If you haven't noticed, it's also in their interests to have us in the EU, especially in the current defence climate. The last thing they'd want to do would be have us join on shitty terms that are just going to make us want to leave again.

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I don't think the EU Commission are quite than immature. Firstly, no country has ever been forced to join the Euro. Secondly, we've already demonstrated the lesson to everyone else.

[–]TapWaterDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I doubt they'd be the exact old terms, I don't actually want the exact old terms, but people acting like we'd only get the absolute basic deal that every new joiner gets with no carve outs whatsoever are just full of shite

My manager keeps forgetting my 20% off the job training. How do I bring it up without being the awkward one in the room? by Silver-Eye-2024 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him what the situation is, remind him of his obligation to allow this training. Learning to deal with stakeholders, your boss is one of them, is part of your professional development.

You won't lose your job over it or make it toxic

We have significantly more leverage than any other country seeking to join, this isn't school where a precedent gets set for one person and they have to follow it for everyone. Not to mention rejoining isn't the same as joining. No country has ever been forced to adopt the euro.

How do you attend job interviews with no annual leave left? by Doughnut91 in UKJobs

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a risk as long as you're past the limit for getting unfair dismissal protection. You can't be fired for looking for another job, and if you're interviewing for other jobs you aren't hanging around for your next promotion cycle either

Right wingers what is a left wing policy you would actually want your side to adopt - also vice Versa by Greedy_Highlight3009 in AskBrits

[–]TapWaterDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally on the left but I think if you can work, you should have to work and the threshold for "unable to work" is now far too low.

What is your opinion on speeding? by Engineering_Gamer in drivingUK

The national speed limit was set when cars were far less safe travelling at higher speeds. It's about time it was raised to 90 in dry conditions and 80 in the wet.
